considering a 120 gal reef ready tank i found used has 2 overflows. does anyone have any good or bad things to say about this idea.

if i buy the tank i would either get a wet dry bio ball filter
or possibly 2 eheims conected to the overflows. not sure how that would work.

debating between new 120 gal with pine stand
or
used 120 with nice oak stand and canope reef ready
for
about the same price.

opinions?

I like the Oak wood look better but that's my taste.... You can go with the wet dry option. I have one for mine and I used extra Bio-bale ( from CPR protein skimmers) you can buy it at marinedepot.com for the "wet" part to increase the biological capacity of the filter. Mine is being running for 3 years now and have no had problems

I have a much older (used) bottom drilled 75gal reef tank w/ sponge prefilter overflow & bioballs that's been a really healthy tank for 8 discus. Be aware that there will be some sound of running water. Reef systems benefit from the scouring action of strong pumps & currents, something not needed w/ discus, meaning you can downsize the pump from what's recommended for salt tanks.

I drilled a hole in the return pipe just above the tank water line to prevent reverse siphoning if the pump stops- an important feature.
