Ha! Heck no..I don't rescue fish! In defense of this store I will say these arrived in this condition. the tank was very warm to touch also. I have to go back today so I will ask who supplier is.(out of curiosity)
the blue ones were actually black and didn't show up in photos well

they would be if the stores carried more often GOOD QUALITY fish. prblm is the stores will only deal with local breeders. cutting out shipping fees and such.

Why the marine invertebrates behind the poor discus? Tell me it is not in a marine tank.

Poor little thing. But it does remind me of a similar looking discus I found at WAL MART in the fish isle, about 15 yrs. ago. One lone little discus, all brown, for $7.50 I couldn't resist it. Took it home, put it right in with my others (didn't know better then) and amazingly it grew into a 4" brown with lots of turquoise. True story, but very rare I know.

One of the big reasons store fish look so bad is that most LFS don't keep the discus on a seperate water system,so if there is anything in the water it will get to the discus. ..there is only one store around here that has ok discus, that is because the owner is a discus guy...

Typical petshop quality. Is too bad that a local breeder would dare to pass that off on the store. Says a lot about the breeder if it came in like that...Bill

yeah i hear ya Bill. These could be out of Denver for all I know.. I have deal to supply one store with angels and discus, maybe I can deal with this one..(if I am successful at breeding discus of course) Angels are easy

hmmm better cover the tanks!
anyway the discus at my LFS are from someplace in Fla. But I didn't ask names and probably wouldn't have posted as it may have been considered slander. Anyway, They want my fish as well as long as they are quarter size or bigger and have some form of color or striations/spots! :) we'll see

The chain of custody for LFS discus is often poor. Breeder > exporter > importer > jobber > LFS > hobbyist. Discus are actually pretty tough, but that fact just means that young fish can be stunted or irretrievably damaged from poor care anywhere along the way. If they look bad, they are bad.

The only LFS discus I've seen here in Denver are ones I wouldn't touch with a pole. I'm glad I don't have to, either- I have access to the best through our sponsors.
