I am curious as to what if any effect low level salt treatments have on your bio-filter? Does anyone know? I talking about therapeutic levels not dips just what is often recommended for minor ailments. Thanks

salt doesn't have much if any effect on de-nitrifying bacteria. However, if you are suggesting a prophylactic level of salt, I wouldn't recommend it, as the irritation to the fishes slime coat would be continual, leading to unnerved fish.

I only add it to the tank when the fish look a bit "off", but never all the time. It seems to have no affect at the lower levels on the filter bed...Bill

Thanks. I was just planning to use it for a couple of days as one of my guys got a bit annoyed during a WC and scraped his side a bit. Just hoping to head off a secondary infection.
