I have a Eheim pro 3 2075 on a 110 gallon. When i put the meter on max flow, the current in the tank goes too high. And my discus hides in the corner and keeps on struggling against the treadmill. Please help on how to place the inlet and outlet so that i can have a min current in tank. I am attaching some experiments i carried. All failed. Still high current in tank.

I have my tank inlet and spray bar set-up like pic #2

so flow across the surface from left and inlet on the other end? does this help?

I have never studied it I just done it that way. I figured it would circulate the water better threw out the tank and not just in a corner. Doesn't seem to bother my fish they just don't like eating off the surface. But the food gets water logged and slowly sinks and the grab it then.

thanks man. circulation is not a problem. i have over circulation and flow which discus dont like as they like more calmer water.

I use 2 spray bar with my 2 eheim 2026. One pointing to the back at an angle while the other toward the front. Both spray bar is near the top surface of the tank.

Try pointing it at the glass?

I would use either pic 2 or 3 for location of the equipment. One way I have decreased flow is to drill larger holes in the spraybar. I have also drillied holes in both sides of the SB so flow would go towards the top of the waters surface and down the glass on the end of the tank.

Hi,

I have an Eheim with a spray bar as well. I have the spray bar pointed upwards but at an angle (not straight up so that it breaks the water surface and splashes). I experimented with the depth of the spray bar and the angle so that each hole just causes a "wave" or turbulence on the surface. Not only are the discus happy, but the water surface is nicely broken up for aeration. I used to occasionaly get a thin 'film' on the surface like an oil slick ... not any more.

Cheers!
Peter

+1 always worked for me. I am running two magnum 350's on my 55 gallon and angling them at the surface and pointing them at the glass helps, the discus don't seem to mind at all.

In 1 tank I have the spraybar across the front to back end a few inches below the surface but facing slightly up. It really depends on your tank layout & what obstacles might impede the flow & provide calm areas for the fish. I also have 2 filters on almost all tanks, there is no 1 best position.

Thats a great idea!

Finally i pushed the spay bar a little down and faced it directly to the glass and tilted a little downward. There is only half a centimeter gap between the spray bar and glass and i put the inlet on the other end so that it can suck the uncirculated water ... now i have a very nice and calm water!! its now more calm than AMAZON!! GUESS WHAT! MY DISCUSES ARE SWIMMING ALL OVER THE TANK!!:D

Aim the spray bar either against your back wall (central) or on one of the "sides" of the tank so that it'll flow across the entire length of the tank and prefilter the intake.
