I have a group of San Merah X Yellow Sunrise fry, they're about an inch long now and doing great. This is my second set of discus that I've ever had, and I'm new to the hobby period. Please be patient with this yet another peppering question.

Are these strains PB based? Are my fry already showing peppering? I don't care if they're peppered as I don't plan on starting a breeding program or anything like that, I'm just curious. I've searched high and low for this answer and I haven't found anything. Maybe some of you can help.

Here are the parents:

And here are the fry (sorry about the terrible photography):

I had just done a WC and fed them decapped BS eggs. There's no darkening substrate or background, water parameters are standard and not crazy. I've been feeding them pureed and plain beefheart, white worms, small black worms, decapped BS eggs, BBS, "Superfry II", and flake. They eat like crazy and are growing quickly. Water temp is 86 deg F.

The San Merah is brown based and not a Pigeon blood if pure, but that "Yellow Sunrise" is a Pigeon Blood. Hence the reason why the fry are showing pepper.
I do say you are doing fairly good for your second set of discus. Perhaps finding proper mates for those fish is a good idea.

Your fry does have a bit of peppering... Maybe ask Joel how they will turn out...Those look like Joels fish, correct?...Bill

Yep, they're Joel's fish. We were having issues getting them shipped, but we're working it out. He's a great seller, and I've been very happy so far with the service he's given me. From what I understand, he's not sure how they'll turn out, but his best guess is they'll look really nice. Like I said, I'm not worried about the peppering...I guess I was just wondering where it came from. Neither of the parents have it.

I do not think Joel has grown any out.
