Mine love to nip at me. Then I lightly touch them back it's a game. Today my 2 year daughter got nipped she loved it we call it fishy kisses haha. My discus have become true pets not just fish.

Happens to me with every gravel cleaning. My gf loves it, but I have to say it makes me a little nervous that I'm going to make a false move and freak them out.

I guess I must be used to it. Whenever I feed the freeze dried black worms the discuss often mistake my fingers for the worms. They just go crazy...:) I also cannot get them to get out of the way when I'm siphoning the gravel in their tanks. They are always begging to be fed.

Mine bite really hard when feeding FDBW, less with other foods. They go for the knuckle wrinkles that apparently look like blackworms.

lol! one of my Super Checkerboard Pigeon starting pecking at my hand yesterday when I was siphoning the water. I had been hand feeding them for the last 2 days so I assume it thought I had some food in there somewhere.....

One of the funniest things about raising tankfuls of baby fish is when they all attack your arms during a water change. :D My little pea-sized angels all used to pull at my arm hair. Ouch!

It's good that discus don't have a painful bite. Imagine this thing sneaking up on you...

He's about 10" now and decided that he doesn't like my hands in the tank. It scares me every time I lose sight of him during w/c. :(

Ah , what a fish! what is it Ryan

Hoplarchus psittacus, aka "True Parrot Cichlid." They're beautiful and full of personality, but they're also not afraid to push other fish (and their owners!) around.

they do look a bit like Severums , wonder if they can live with Discus

Ryan

I wouldn't personally do it, Vera. Their attitudes can be very unpredictable, much like any South American cichlid. I've seen some people keep them together without any issue, but mine hates everything -- severums, pike cichlids, geos, even other parrot cichlids. He's made it clear that he's the boss and he doesn't care what anyone else has to say about that. I'm afraid that a large one would be much too rough on discus.

You also need a giant tank, as the males can get 13"+. Mine dominates a 210 gallon like it's a 55 gallon. :(

Now that is an "Intimidator" Ryan!
Any pics of that tank?
Yea, you might want to consider getting one of those shark suits, at least for your arm. LOL
