Hey guys,
I can't find a website that has decent tanks and stands.
Is the only way a fish store?
There must be some sites that have good tanks for sale??

Unless you're looking for something special or in particular, you're better off with buying locally. It costs a lot to ship...
I know the LFS chain here sold aquariums last summer for $1/gallon and I think Petco (or Petsmart) has a sale once a year for up to 75G tanks.
I went to Craigslist to buy two of my tanks.
that's not to say you can't buy tanks cheaply online, I just wasn't able to find any when I was looking.

PETCO has the $1 gallon sale.. the tanks that discus people would like 20high, 29g, 40 breeder and 55g.. *55 is the largest they have on this sale.. :)
if they don't have the tanks you want.. then will give RAINCHECKS!!! ;) i picked up some from 2 different PETCOS! :))
i think they have had 2 in the last year :) its bi annual sale

Craigslist
I've found some amazing deals on Craigslist. My 210 gallon came from Craigslist. It's an Aqueon (All-Glass) brand with drilled overflows and it was like new with no leaks or scratches for $400. They are $700 - 800 at the LFS. I also picked up a 150 with a stand and wet/dry filter for $200. It was filthy and needed to be resealed, but that only takes a weekend and minimal cost to fix up. A tank like that is $1000+ new with the glass and stand.
Petco does in fact have the $1/gallon sale, but I don't think it's going on right now and it's no good if you're looking for bigger than 55 gallons. I wish they included 75 gallon tanks in that deal -- I'd be in heaven. :D

Actually, a few years ago they did include 75 gallons in the $1/gallon sale. I remember someone from one of the forums (maybe here at Simply?) ordered a ton of them. I'm wondering if it ended up being too costly for Petco and they've now limited it to 55s.

I bought my 75G from the local LFS for $1/gallon. That was nice. I think Craigslist is the way to go. I'm usually hesitant to put water in ANY tanks, but more so for a used tank. If you can, just stick it in your backyard overnight to make sure it doesn't leak. It's a hassle, but it beats filling it in your house and waking up to a leaky tank.

The only tank I've ever had leak was a 72 bow that I bought brand new.:flame: I know, I defy the odds.

What size tank are you looking for?
If you go to Petsmart, you will find that some of their tank kits are 50% off (20,29,37,55). These are the ones with the stealth heater that they removed from the kit. It work out to be about the same as $1/gal if you need a top and filter.

Yeah, I actually have a shortcut/bookmart/favorite (whatever you want to call it) to go to Craigslist to do an automatic search for aquariums :P
Good deals are common and great deals are rare but they do happen.
I picked up my 260W light fixture (retailed new for $200), about 100 lbs of rock (not sure), a fluval 404 and a fluval 405 ($300) all for $180 (total). I did have to replace some parts on the fluvals and one of the covers for the light at a cost of about $40 though. So overall, $220 for all that still is a good deal.
