I have found 12 20" by 55" tempered glass shelves with polished edges for sale. Could the sheets be used to build an aquaium 20 X20 X 55 by justing buying the end pieces and glue? I was most concerned about the polished edges.
Thanks

Maybe a little duct tape and some bailing twine to strengthen it up a little. LOL sorry I don't know if that will work or not just have a strange sense of humor some times. One important issue if you try it do not use silicone for building. Use only aquarium grade silicone. The building grade products have anti mold additives that will kill your fish. I have seen some good threads on DIY tanks. Can't remember if it was here or another site.

This will work if the panels are 1/2 thick. Shelves are typically pretty thin.

The shelves are only 1/4 inch thick, but they are tempered. Will they work?
Thanks

55" long X 1/4" panels will bow considerably when pushed by the weight of water. You would need to support against that by either a top frame or glass panels glued front to back in a couple spots.

It would need a top bracket. Regular 55G tanks are 1/4 regular glass @48in so as far as strength you should be fine as tempered is much harder to brake.
