Hi everyone,

At last, I have finalized my tank’s setup. I have tried some aquascaping with Manzanita driftwood and some plants (7 anubias, 1 echinodorus and 1 micrososum). I have a short YouTube video showing the tank and describing the setup:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xyR-SXPQdnw
The tea-like color of the water is due to driftwood tannis.
How do you like it? Comments and suggestions are welcome.
The tank is still cycling. It took 3 weeks for the first nitrite reading to appear. As soon as the cycling finishes I will get 6 wild discus from the Alenquer region.
I can’t wait to get my fish …

Best,

Mauro

Mauro - First time I've viewed your tank, and I'm duly impressed - It's going to look great !
Have been on your other thread regarding your cycling, as you know, and you may be a newbie, but you certainly know what you're doing & what you want to achieve. Keep us posted, on both threads. Can't wait to hear what has transpired after you get back from being away from April 10 to 18. I'm sure your cycling will turn out ok and I hope you get those 6 wilds you have reserved !
Best of luck,
Paul

Thank you everyone. It is not easy to decide on the aquascaping. I was influenced by the tank n the attached photo (got from the internet, forgot the source). I also liked the composition of this tank from a YoutTube video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HDARR5fITBA

Of couse mine is simplier. I wanted to go minimalist, few plants (no C02), sand substrate and wood.

Any other comments/suggestion about composition, plants, wood?

Thanks,

Mauro

Hi Paul, it seems that I posted my reply while you were writing your comment. Anyway, all that I am allegedly achiving in this hobby in my recent return to it is largely due to people like you, who give their time to share advice. Simply Discus has been my main source of inspiration. Few months ago I did not know that you could use pool filter sand as substrate, I had never heard of Manzanita driftwook, etc. Thank you for your extensive and generous advice.

Well, all I have to add is that I think your tank with the manzanita wood and pool filter sand will no doubt look superb with the wilds you will be getting. I'm envious, in that I have long been planning to simplify my 75 gal tank to the look you seem to be working toward. I've been using PFS for quite a while now, in my low-tech planted tank with 10 juvie discus, and while having excellent results, I'd just like to change the look a bit.
Pls. keep us informed on how things are going.

I got 6 wild Cuipeua discus, but because an unfortunate mistake on my part they got sick. You can read about it and see a video of the fish before the incident in the following thread:

You can also follow my attempts to cure the fish in another thread:
