So these are my first set of discus. I thought I would throw up a video and get some comments. I know they aren't high end, but are they growing out ok? They are about 5-6 months old.

Thanks for looking!

They look spunky and content...There's an icon for 'insert video' in the reply taskbar...

They look fine. Maybe a little thin. Feed a lot and change even more water and they should grow out nicely.

The cobalts look fantastic! I'd take all of the cobalts. Where did you get them? The pigeons are average. Keep them growing!

Well, that's how I've been feeling about them, so it's nice to have that confirmed. I got them from Central Ohio Discus. Michael Beals told me they were Jeffery Yang discus. The price on the checkerboards was REALLY low so I can't expect wonders...

The blues were sold as Brilliant Turquoise. That's a bit different that cobalts, isn't it?

Its a name, JY calls them brilliants then that's what they are. They are his fish. They are exceptional indeed.

They look good and you have some nice ones. Two observations. They seem to be breathing a bit fast ( could be normal for their size ) and one of the pigeons has a white spot on it's side fin left side (top most in the video).

Pat, younger fish breath much faster than sub-adult/adult fish.

Thanks everyone! I've had them for almost 3 months. They were 3" when I got them and they're 4-4 1/4 or so now. The temp's 85 deg F. It's funny. When I ordered the fish, I was most excited about the pigeons. Now (and before these comments) I have switched my allegiance to the Blues!

OK, I've found the white spot on the fin on the fish facing the camera at the 18-20 second spot. I'm going to look after the fish have finished eating and see if I can see it in real life. Any ideas as to what it is?

Don't fret, they come and go. Just stay on top of water quality.

I have two sponge filters on the tank, but neither have a air diffuser on them. They were just the end of a hose. I've put diffusers on them. That should help my oxygen level, right?

Yeah the blues are the catch there.

The one you have reminds me of light blue fish I had years ago, before diamonds.
Some discus are just a little more slight of build then others. (nice classic look) IMHO

The blue cobalts look fantastic nice shape and everything! What tank size and what's your filtration?

It's a 50 gal tank that 4 feet long and only 16 inches tall. It's a wierd one. The fish don't spend much time in the left half of the tank. I'm not sure why. Filtration wise, I've got two spong filters and an Enheim cansiter filter (2217) on it. Overstocked by overfiltered? I don't know. There are 11 4 inch fish in there. Thoughts?

The diffusers actually limit o2. The larger bubbles increase o2. Hook them back directly.
