So, a few minutes ago I walked by the tank to find my alpha male Jack laying eggs! I've seen some behavior that looked like pairing, but I always assumed that Jack was the male. I guess I was applying sexist human ideas to fish!

The other half of the pair, the now presumptive male, is just eating the eggs as they are laid.

My little Brooklyn apartment is already full of tanks, so I have zero interest in breeding...but I have to say I'm super excited to see the egg laying behavior for the first time! The wonders of nature!

I couldn't get good video because Mr. Perfect (who I guess really is a Mister) is being very protective.

It's sort of funny and sad to see a fish laying eggs and another one comes behind her and has a snack.

Story of my life, mine have almost always turned out the opposite of what i thought they were.

I may be wrong 99% of the time but at least I'm consistent !!!

Does the fact that she laid eggs mean she is done growing? I've had them since August when I got them at 2.5 inches, but I have been keeping up the heavy feeding and daily wcs hoping for a little more growth.
