ok so i am new to discus.

and i have a semi planted tank.

it is a 92 gallon tank.
with about 6 small plants.
my substrate is 1/4 to 1/2 gravel.

i use to have more plants but my other fish pre discus ate them all up.
i never did the whole CO2 thing.
just really planted them and let them be.

so my thoughts are wait about a month or so and if everything is well.
i want to add some more plants. most of mine are small plants only about 3-4 inches tall.

i would like some longer plants.

any ideas on plants and types to use with discus

Try to get plants that will do reasonably well at high temp - i.e. up to 84-85F. Many swords are fine, java fern, Hygros, some Ludwigia, some Crypts, even Vals or Sag - I've good success with Jungle Vals, and Red & Tiger Lotus. Anubias are good too, if you have something to attach them to, e.g. DW.
When you begin adding plants to that 90 gal. you're going to need to start some regular regime of fertilizing - dry ferts, Flourish Excel & other Flourish products, perhaps root tabs - OR you may need to consider using CO2.

Hi jeep,

I just read your other thread and wanted to say welcome! =)

If you browse the threads in this section you'll find a LOT of good ideas on what to add to your aquascape. There are lots of threads with pics of tanks that have given me tons of inspiration (and a wee bit of envy, ok a LOT of envy lol)

See if you can find a scape or two that you like and then ask what they used in the tank to create it. I currently have a lightly planted tank since I'm going to be growing out my discus for another few months and once that's done this tank will house a variety of community fish and my adult discus will be moving to a "semi" biotope type tank.

I say "semi" because I'm going to be using mostly materials that I can find here in the great northwest, so it'll just be an Idahomie's interpretation of the Amazon.
