The parents are blue diamond x blue snakeskin. There are 9, 12, and 14 bar fry

I have the same pairing, they throw BD, BSS, Scorpions, and Turqs (9 bars). Your pictures only clearly showed 9 bars.

Maybe you talked to the same person as I did about that pairing, I was once told they'd produce all scorpions.

Nice fish regardless, Id like to see a thread explaining this terminology related to "bars" and crossing strains. Does one exist?

12 bar fry...hmm that's a new one to me. BD should be 9 bar fish but show no bars, SS should be 14 bar fish. I was told that only SS x SS would produce 14 bar fish, any crosses would only yield 9 bar fish. Confused...

I saw in another thread that one of the breeders noting that SS do not breed true. So even SSxSS would not breed all snake skins.

yes, I believe that is correct. SSxSS will throw out 70% SS 14 bar 30% 9 bar throwbacks.....pretty sure it was Kenny Cheung who explained that for the ALSS/ARSG.

did any of yours produce 12 bars.. I have three that I am certain have 12 bars. I too was told they would produce all scorpions.

There should be no BDs from this cross unless the SS parent had BD in it's ancestery in which case you might get a very very few of them. You will always get a few Turks in the mix. 'bout everything is decended from Turks. You even get them when you breed PB to PB.

From my experiece you should get mostly BSs from this cross. They vary as to how much SS patterning they have. They should have 14 bars.

Here's a link to my pair and a few of their off spring at about 10 months. http://forum.simplydiscus.com/showthread.php?73082-Blue-Fish-lovers-delight&p=740266&highlight=#post740266 No, definitely no 12 bar. If you're seeing 12 bars your either missing 2 or have been at 1 a bit to long. I'd say about a third of their offspring or so were turqs.

There is a mix of Blur Turqs and BSS. Just that the only fish with visible bars are the 9 bar. In the first picture, behind the clearly visible 9 bar fish is a SS. You can see the that it has more than 9 bars. Regardless of the amount of bars, its not like there has never been 9 bar SS fish. Although not too common, its been seen before. In selling these fish, it would be wise to mention the parents so people will know the genetics/possibilities. ;)

Whatever they are, I think they're lovely little guys :) I don't think you should have any trouble selling them!

Although I've not seen this my self, Andrew Soh in his second book talks about 12 and 21 bar Discus.

I've had Discus with 4 and 5 bars, and every other number in between. Some have had 9 on one side, and 7 on the other. Big deal. There is no hard and fast rule for stress bars. I just saw a pic of someones wild on here with 11 or so bars...does that make it a Snakeskin?...Bill

A read Eddie posted today tells of the snakeskin, (maybe) comming from a wild.
I guess its a wild intill its a f1. then it could be called a sakeskin.

Would you consider meeting up with me in Woodbridge or anywhere else in Northern VA?

For all that read these post. These fish were hatched by Mountain Preist and their exceptional parents. EJ and I are working with and helping each other out in any way we can. I have an excellent grow out system in opperation as my breeding program grows.
