I have 12 juvies growing out in my 29g tank.

Is there a rule or guideline you follow to know when to change/upgrade your tank for the growout?
I have another 30g tank I can split half of the group into. Plus, I have the 90g tank waiting for them once they're all grown.

I have read atleast 10 gal per adult. More will help continual growth while growing out.

Well, as an 'old fart', I grew up with these round fish before someone kindly 'discovered' the 10 gallon 'rule'..we went by 2 gal per inch of Discus, and 1 gallon for other species...HTH

2 gal per inch, that means I have only 15 in, so I'm way overstock??????? I see people with tanks that is super overstock.........

One five inch fish would need 10 gallons..kind of the same...one three inch fish would need six gallons...

I QT my juvies in a 29 gallon tank with a maximum of 4 discus in the tank. This way, I don't need to worry about changing them into a larger tank until they are 4 to 5 inches.

if you change say, 100% a day you could go quite some time with them in your tank depending on their size once they reach 3 to 4 inches you'll need to go 55 or better.

A crap-free tank is still full of wastes - you just can't see it. I change at least 50% every day and I only have 3 fish in my 29 gallon.
