Hello everyone,
I've always been fascinated by pictures of bright yellow discus. Thats what got me into trouble recently when I purchased from an unscrupulous dealer's website . Can anyone tell me who is a reputable dealer that has this color discus for sale?

I think Mike Beals from CODiscus had some yellows in his last shipment. I'll take a look.
I guess he sold out of them.

I have been looking for that type of fish for the last 20 years or so and have not been able to find any that I considered high quality. Good luck.

Bright yellow is going to turn into no so brigh yellow as they grow. I am currently growing a few out and keeping them yellow is very hard. Mine are turning into tangerine.

Do vendors usually use chemicals to keep them yellow?

The closest I ever got to a bright yellow fish was this one. It was a female. In 4 breeding's I got about 15 wiggles then she just up and died. She was an adult when I got her. No telling haw old she was then.

Actually I found some yellows. It's not a simply discus member, "that I know of", he says they are the best yellows I will find in this country. I haven't found out where they came from. I had plans on traveling there with my wife to work out a deal this weekend. I'm afraid to tell who it is because everyone will be calling him. He says if he posted them on the internet they would be gone in a day. I have been watching and searching like John but not 10 years like John has. I think the yellows are fascinating and also a great color to cross into others. I even like the yellow points in a diamond blue. I just like the color and love to see solid yellows too. I just don't have any in my tanks yet. I might be too picky but it's got to be a bright yellow to look the best. And along with that I want good shape too. Now I've already made plans to go and at least see these, which I will do this weekend. I know he doesn't want to sell them but is willing to let me buy a few. So it sounds like some keep their color and some even get more yellow. I guess I'll have to ask these little 3"ers what they are going to do. Hopefully he has adults too that I can see

Look at the first 3 pictures. That's how they look when I first got them. About 6 weeks later, they look like that in the last two pictures. They are like that now but bigger.
I try my best not to give them any color enhancing food but I know the AngelPlus stuff has some in it. I wish I could just feed them FDBW and CBW but that's just way too expensive. They rarely get any FBH, maybe once a month.

Okay, I've been wondering this regarding yellows and feeding. If you are feeding a food with red coloration to it (colorbits) or a mix with paprika is the turning red permanent? Or is it like a dye and goes away when you feed a different food that doesn't have the red to it?
I have a yellow from Kenny that is very yellow and clean. Would like to keep it as yellow as possible.
I thought the coloration was temporary based on current feeding but some seem to suggest its a permanent deal.
Van , they still look pretty yellow to me in the last picture ,
have u tried playing with background color, maybe if that was more solid color the yellow would b more intense ?

I have only kept albino yellows , so I can only speek for them. they were a little pale when purchesed, so I feed them with c. yellow and only for half of the reccomended amount of time 5 instead of ten days. in the folowing months they have been getting paprika in the beef heart mix because I dont want to make seperate mixes. the paprika has turned the striations more orange but not the body color. and yes the c. yellow has worn off but it has taken several months and the fish still look more yellow to me than when they were recieved

Vera,
I have not play around with their environment since I got them. I simply have them in a 55gal grow out tank with the Piwo and Heckel cross. This is the one tank that I don't pay much attention to the discus beside feeding and water changes.
Leo: I ordered the CY but don't plan to use them until these are bigger.
FWIW, the yellow discus I posted in post #10 was fed tetra colorbits and it still look like that.

OK I got some of those yellows that are supposed to be the best in the country. They are not all that so I only got two. At 3 inches it's hard to tell. At this point they are white with a slight yellow tint. When you drive 3.5 hours you might as well buy something for your wife who has been all excited all week to get some yellows. I must say I was too, but I'm a bit disappointed. When they get settled in I will take some pics ...Scott

They appear to have decent shape. All you can do now is just feed and give them clean water. You will get a better sense of what they look like 6-9 months from now. If if was me, I would not grow them out in your other tank setup with those large gravels.

Actually Van, I wish I had gotten more than 2 now. I only got two because in his bottom row tank without light they didn't look this well. They looked more like orange finned whites. So now here is my plans, I'll stay on the market for about 3 more yellows to grow out with them.

You would loose the bet then John :)
Those yellow sunrise pigeons from Mike Beals (Jeffrey Yang) are very resistent to color change. I have imported them quite a few times and tested them by feeding color enhancers and i cannot get them to turn orange. I feed as red color enhancers prawns, spirulina, Sera discus granules among other food in the diet, and no orange.

What color enhancer are you referring to? I just learned that marigold pedals will serve as an excellent color enhancer for yellow. I thought that maybe I found some nice yellows. I drove 4 hrs one way to get them because I was told they are the best yellows in the country. Well now at 4" they are turning orange. But I think the reason that is happening is because of feeding tetracolor bits. The red is over powering the yellow.
