Are there any substitutes for baby brine shrimp when feeding fry? Finally, got by fry to attach to the parent, but now its time to feed the little ones with an external source. Baby brine shrimp are not available. Are there any substitues that you have used?

Thanks for the help.

BBS are always available. You hatch your own. Very easy!!

You can always buy frozen baby brine shrimp...

They also sell substitutes, but no idea how they work. I've used artificial fry food for other fish, not discus and they work fine... but not for discus, so use at own risk:

There is other crap that you can feed them but in my opinion it is not nearly as good as BBS.

You can buy brine shrimp eggs at Jehmco. They are very easy to hatch. Cut a 1 liter pop bottle in half, turn the top upside down and place in the bottom, with the lid screwed on tight. Fill the container 3/4 full of water, insert an airstone so it goes to the bottom of the water. Add some chlorine remover, 3 Tablespoons of non iodized salt and a pinch of baking soda. You can adjust the amount of BBS eggs depending on how many fry you have. I usually start with about 1/2 teaspoon. Make 2 of the pop bottle containers and start the second one 2 days after the first so you have a constant supply. I don't use a light or heater and get a great hatch rate. Good luck with the fry, post some pics when you get a chance.
