Just finished plumbing the 125 gallon tank with a 30 gallon sump. I am using a Quiet One 4000 water pump. Learning as i go with this sump setup. Thanks greatly to JCardona1 for all his help. I plumbed everything with a water valve so i can control the flow. The tank has a 1200 gallon Overflow box and for safety measures, i also made a 1.5in DIY PVC overflow.

I am trying to figure out if leaving the return valve full open will create too much current for the Discus i have. The 4000 pump spec is 991 gph. The head height is about 3.5 to 4 ft max. With the sticky i found in the forum, it is cycling the water about 9-10x per hour for my tank on full throttle. Is that too much?

The Discus are in a 45 gallon tank right now. They are between 2-3in. Getting ready to cycle the tank with SeaChem Stability with 20 rummy nose and 20 neons.

thanks

It should be alright. Mfgs. like to exaggerate pump specs. anyway. I like some current in my tanks. I have around 1200 gph in both a 240 gal. and a 150 gal. plus air stones. Water circulation is a good thing. As long as the discus don't have to struggle, then it's fine. You can always cut it back a little if needed.

At 4 ft the head is no longer 991, it's 712 gph, which is closer to what you're wanting. 991 is only at zero head. http://www.lifegardaquatics.com/products/product.php?id=10

thanks for the pump info. Just wanted to make sure that the pump does not create too much current in the tank for the Discus. I guess i can always turn the pump down but i also want it to circulate enough.
