Congratulations! Is that tds 2000? WOW! There are a couple of different schools of thought on that. Some say tds really is not relevant - it's just one of those excuses that go around when eggs don't hatch. Secondly, whatever solids make up your tds may not be the solids that impact the eggs. I've heard calcium and magnesium play a role and so gh is more important than tds. I'm on shaky ground here, though, as far as my knowledge is concerned.

That's my understanding too Martha. If a large % of the TDS comes from calcium, which is the case with most tap water, then you need low TDS to get good hatch rates. But if a large % is, say, sodium based, then a high TDS can be misleading and won't nescessarily lead to low hatch rates.

I have Florida tap water, ph about the same double ms almost 1000ms, and almost 500tds, also my gh is through the roof and I get 90 percent hatch rate, that is not just one pair that is several different pairs I have worked with. I really don't know what it is, talked with Al about it also and he has had reports of the same thing from other people!!! I have no complaints:), but really does make me wonder, and I hate when I can't figure something out LOL.

Martha and Kacey that is what I always use to think also, but like I said my water comes from the Florida aquafer all shell and sand very high in calcium!!! It really does drive me crazy when I get thinking about it LOL

That is curious Larry. Have you gotten a local water analysis from your Water Co?

Larry, salt water intrusion is a really big problem in your area my buddy gets paid by the usgs in glynn and surrounding counties to check the levels in lots of different local areas

I wish I had a deeper understanding of water. It is so very complex. My water is pH 7.4, kh 4.5, gH 0, uS 237. I can't get an egg to hatch without RO. Go figure...

That's excellent news! If they just went free-swimming they're a bit young for bbs; give it 5 or 6 days. Get that camera out!

This is the " pure tap " batch i talked to you about. They are growing fast and feeding on parents plus bbs and some bloodworm trunks left overs from parents.

Thinking on the questions you guys ask about shaky grounds on high and low tds and the different results from rich calcium, i had one thing different this time in my "tap only" tank is that i add methilene blue before the fish were laying eggs. Eggs wont hatch on low kh and gh and tds maybe because of fungie and other parasites?

The parents are blue but i was told that during nursing period the parents develop more slime and turn darker. The swimmers are gaining more colors this week!
