Decided to try the cone cage idea yesterday. Found "gutter guard", cut it and was on my way. Seemed to be tight enough to hold itself to the flower pot. When I returned home the guard was floating at the top of the tank and all of the eggs were gone. How do you attach the guard to the pot or cone or?

Thanks rdiscus, this is exactly what I did. The problem is it floated off the cone sometime while I was gone. Could have been the actions of the fish. No one else has had this problem?

Attach a few plant weights to the bottom of it or I did see on another post some pics once from someone who had attached a few small fishing sinkers to the bottom of his to help hold it down. Cheers

Plant weights. Of course. Great idea and I'll give it a try. Thank you.

plastic zip ties and stainless steel bolts, or even small pieces of slate.

I used the plastic gutter guard then attached some plant weights to the bottom, works great.

Thanks everyone. I picked up a couple of plant weights last night and will give it a try.

I had the same problem with mine a while ago. The pair would peck it and wrestle with it until it floated off LOL so I eventually made another guard that was tall enough it would wedge against the glass lid of the tank. They never got it off after that ;)

Thanks. My tank is 25" tall so I probably won't have it up against the top glass but I have made two and have plant anchors. Just waiting for the pairs to spawn again. Hopefully that will start today or tomorrow.

After all of this and tracking down the gutter guard and making the guard for the substrate they decided to spawn on a plastic divider where the eggs wouldn't even stick.
