Hello !

My name is Mads, and I am 31 years old living in Norway, Europe.

I have several aquariums but want to tell you about my 450 liter Amazon. All the things inside I have found in Norwegian rivers. The Discus is 5 youngsters, 3 1/2 month old. Cross from Alenquer and Leopard Snakeskin. There are also 8 Corydoras Paleatus and 5 Corydoras Sterbai and 9 Tetras. I have also plans for 7 Pterophyllum Altums this summer...

I hope you enjoy the videos I have made. Sorry for the bad quality! In one of the videos the discus youngsters is eating worms from my garden:)

Hello Mads from Norway...

Very authentic looking Amazon biotope. What are the parameters of your water and what is your tank upkeep regimen (water changes, etc.) What type of filtering system are you using? Is the water "black water" or is that just the appearance of the video?

Hey! Thanks folks! Nice comments:)

I am cleaning the sand once a month with only sucking the dirt from the top. The sand is also from a norwegian river. Leafes, driftwood, roots and sand.

My water parameters are: No2: 0, No3: <0,25, Ph: 6,0, Temperature: 28. The tapwater has Ph 6,7 here.

Water changes: Once a day I change 80 liter with cold tapwater. And once a week I change 150 liter cold tapwater.

The water is only normal water. No blackwater, but I agree - it looks like that:)

I am planning even more driftwood into the aquarium, and off course the Pterophyllum Altums will be nice here I think.

My discus is treated for gill flukes with Kaliumkarbonat.

Your tanks look great and have a very realistic look, and the fish look healthy.
I'd be a little worried about picking up diseases from your local river items though.
Why do you add cold water during wc's? Just curious.

Only because it is more expensive to fill hot water from the tap:)

The rivers around here is temp 0-20 celcius. I am not sure, but I dont think diseases will be a problem...

awesome tank Mads. how do you clean the sand under all that wood. my tank is a pain because of the wood but I don't have that litter look which I think is very natural.

Thank you all of you! I am very happy with the tank. About cleaning : I just carefully move the wood when I clean the sand.

I also noticed that the discus is swimming more natural In this tank comparing to the BB tank.

Really looking forward to put theese in the Amazon aquarium.
