Kind of hard to catch a good picture of the fry, you have to look close. Not a huge batch, I am guessing about 80, but not bad for a first go 1 week after I recieved them.

Looking good Rick!...I know how hard it is to get a good shot of the parents with fry. Having the same problem with my wild Blues as well. All the best!...Bill

Very nice!!!! Keep up the hard work. I wish I could get to that point. The dads keep eatting them after they hatch. :(

Whats more awesome is that they attached on their first spawn, a week after you got them. WOW! I love the color of them as well.

Nice pix...can't beat a spawn one week after arrival. Are these the purebred Cuipeaus or crosses?

Nice Rick, I was kind of wondering the same thing here. What are you seeing in the offspring? Ed

Looking good Rick. They look like they are growing fast. Let me know if you are going to have some for sale.

These would be crosses. You can tell by the roughly 25% white based fry in the pictures.
Rick
Hi
VERY nice looking parents and fry. congrats from Denmark :)
I'm sure the offspring will be very nice with those parents, but very interesting what genes is hidden in this cross (golden or pigeon?). We have some reds (san merah of some kind), where there is about 25% nice looking golden in the offspring (inbreed).
good luck and cheers

Doubtful that the hidden genes are pigeon. I'm leaning more towards a golden background.

Toke,
Pretty sure these are not a PB cross, golden would be my first guess. If there were indeed PB in the genes, the ratio should be closer to 50% different colored offspring. At this point it is my best guess that each of my Curipera is carrying a hidden recessive gene. Golden seems to fit the bill, as the white based fry are not albino's.

You would be first on the list Bill, that is if you are still interested. However, I cannot gurantee the fry to be purebreds, even the ones that look like thier parents could still carry the recessive gene.
Rick
Hi again Rick
I agree it (recessive golden) fits the mendell theory, and I think it is very likely you are right. Hope you will bring us some updates on the upbringing and development of the fry. It should be no secret that i'm a little jalous - your parent fish - they are just WOW :)

I will still be interested. The shape is great they are thick looking as well. Even if there is recessive albino in there I don't mind. Albinos are quite popular and this way the parents can raise them rather than trying to foster or artificial. I will be interested in growing some out.

I believe some are carrying the albino gene . But all the albinos carry the golden gene as they started getting albinos with the golden gene.
Congrats. Very nice.

Bill, I am not seeing any albino fry, although there is a remote possibility that one (not both) of the parents carry the albino gene as well.

Well I can say that both parents are not carrying the albino gene, as for the other I would have to ask Rod.

G'day Rick,
For sure both parents are not carrying the albino gene, though it is entirely possible one could be. And it is possible one of the parents/grandparent used in this cross could have been both a golden and an albino. The 2 genes are not linked in any way and are passed to future generations as seperate. If this is the case then 50% of the fry will carry the albino gene. Hurry up and grow those fry out, i want to see the next generation...lol.

LOL, that's funny Rod.....I was thinking what if these were crossed with a golden albino (Kenny just offered this strain a few shipments back). What I am curious of if all the fish in this "tank" of Curipera's from the sub-breeder were f2 curipera's from the same cross, or from multiple cross's. Having multiple recessive genes in the mix could really complicate things (or make it interesting depending on ones perspective). ;)
I'll go for interesting...lol. My own strain of albino golden melon took 3 generations to ensure the 2 recessives were 100% shown in the fry. Lots of experiments are in order here. Have fun.

Looking fantastic Rick. Those goldens look really strong, at least as large as the brown ones?

Thaks Rod, At least as large, with a few maybe the largest of the batch so far. Seem to be showing alot of color at such a young age as well, or is this typical of goldens?

Just an update: All fry are doing well and strong growers. Took a few pictures and tried to focus on the goldens in the group. Unfortunatly my flash washes them out a bit as the already have a good amount of red on the upper and lower fins and body.

Still going strong, Still with Dad. Bigger than a quarter and fast approaching 50 cent size (including fins).
