My tank has been cycling for 3 weeks now. Ammonia has dropped once and I added more to get it back up to around 5 ppm. Has not yet converted the ammonia to 0 within a 24hour period. My water level has dropped 2.5 inches. Don't think it is necessary to add more water. Do I just keep waiting?
Also bought some food: NLS Discus, Omega One Color Pellets, Prime Reef Flakes, FD Blackworms. Getting some beef heart closer to when I get my fish. How long (if sealed properly) does beef heart mix last. I suppose it can last forever but do the nutrients diminish in time?

Go ahead and keep your water topped off. Your biofilter will go quick once it starts, are you monitoring your nitrIte?

Frozen food stays good for months,, just watch it for freezer burn

A handful of guppies or mollies will cycle this faster.

Using fish to cycle could add parasites or bacteria to the tank, esp if you get them from an outside source like a LFS. If you had your own fish to cycle the tank you could do that but you subject those fish to ammonia burn. Better to continue with the fishless cycle.

I would just ask the seller if you could buy a cycled sponge.
