View Full Version : New Discus Problem
Hello all. I added two new discus, a red/white and a starlight yellow to my tank. That makes 5 total in my 80 gal. tank. Tank is sand substrate, planted with natural light. I feed blood worms in am and flakes at night. Ph is good. Nitrates and nitrites are good. No water problems. The problem is the. new discus. Neither one will eat. They have been in the tank for 2 1/2 days. What is wrong?????
Some take some time to adjust, do you have your lights on, did you quarantine, do they look black or their normal coloration, did you buy them from a LFS or a breeder. This will give more insight to your issue. Don't worry yet, ask what they were eating at the place you got them from and offer that food.
Bought them from Hans. Quarantined then added to larger tank. Coloration is normal. Left lights off first 12 hours. Now they are on light cycle with the tank. Just won't eat
How long did u qt.. ?
Starlight yellow.. ? Thats not a hans fish...
Pigeon blood discus. It's a yellow-orange. Quarantined for 24 hours.
Did u buy direct from hans? If u did, u would know what strain they were..
proper qt is at least 6 weeks..
you mixed sources,
could be jus stress (my hans fish took 6 days to settle in ..
Thx. I'll give it a few more days.

New additions generally need to settle in for several days, overcome their stress and become more comfortable with their new surroundings and tankmates.
You didn't QT near long enough, but that's water under the bridge. 2 & 1/2 days without eating - that's not much - give them another week to 10 days & see how they come around.
