Ok so I replaced about 25% of the water that had evaporated over the past 5 weeks. I also added a bit more ammonia. Can the ammonia reduction part of the cycle take longer then 5 weeks? It reads about 2ppm yesterday and same 24 hrs later.

That's a deal Christian. I'd jump on it. Anytime I order fish I usually try to have the supplier ship me seeded sponges with it. Sponges from another member I trust are just as well.

How much faster would it speed up the process?

It's instant! The seeded sponge has all the beneficial bacteria you'd need in order to add your discus and get busy with the fish keeping end of things. And oh my gosh, take Warlock up on the offer...it's as good as you'll ever get. =)

I emailed him. I did check my ph levels. Two separate tests. One for ph and one for high ph. It is above 8

If you are going to use seeded media, I highly recommend using ONLY your own media from another tank or media supplied by the person selling you the fish - no one else.
