and hope for some rain for my area....LOL. I have been receiving love notes from the water company for the last couple of months. Now my water bill is not that high...roughly $120 to $150 per month but they are talking about limiting my supply. If it does not ease up pretty quick there may very well be a fire...I mean drought sale at my place. I hate to clear out the fish house but it might become a reality fairly quick. If it happens don't worry I will still be around and I will restock when the drought breaks.

$120 to $150 how much water do you use a month????

My water bill is around $28 a month but we are in the same boat as you no rain for a month and temps in the mid to upper 90's.

Thanks everyone. I have acquired some great stock, but I know where I can always get some more...LOL. Last night I left all of the windows and all of the doors open on the fish house. I left the fans running and at 6:00 AM it was still 86 degrees in there....IOn other words it is damned hot all of the time...LOL.

I am changing around 600 gallons a day. give or take a hundred....

Sorry to hear..water must be cheap where you are if you use 20K+ gallons a month and cost you less than $150.

Similar water shortages here in Houston, a lot of neighborhoods posting signs for voluntary water rationing. Luckily I only have 1 tank to take care of, but it makes me think harder about adding more. Also makes me laugh when I see the (same ones with the signs) neighborhood sprinklers on during the short rain we had last night. No one's fault since they are on a timer, it just looks funny.

/Hope you get some rain John

Bad part is that at least for us in the atx area we still have no rain in the forecast

John and all, sorry to hear about lack of rain.

John, If I recall you have horses? Put a round or two out in the pasture. It will rain then.

Feelin' for you, buddy. Wish I could knock a big chunk of ice off this glacier we get our water from and send it down to you. Are Jim and Randy in the same situation?

I don't think it is hurting them yet. My little water district buys water from larger water districts. This maybe one of the few times that living way out in the country is a bad thing....

Randy might, I think he's on the same water system as John, but I'm not, no restrictions for us [yet?].

I'm willing to sacrifice the yard and grass watering for the fish if needed LOL.

I know I used 38K gallons of water last month. My bill was over $170. Thank goodness I only have a single 55 to deal with now. Of course most of this is going to my lawn. Ask Skip its still green. Thank goodness Round Rock isn't on the same water restrictions as Austin (different water sources).

If the lack of water for water changes is issue, would a product like Purigen help eliminate water changes thus you can keep all your fish with your limited water source? I've never tried the product but you could at least try it to see if it works.

I'm really curious to know if anyone has had success with this product raising discus. John maybe you should give it a shot with one of your tanks.

You could always slow way down on the feeding and partition some big tanks to keep pairs separated.

Found an interesting snippet in the Ft. Worth paper today...

"Fort Worth water customers used a record 358.1 million gallons of water. "

It just doesn't look good.....LOL.

I wish I could help you out. Until my fishroom is up and running I don't have much available tank space. I could hold a specail pair for you until things turn around. That's about it.

We were in the same boat here for a couple of months, but finally the rains have started.

Thanks Liz but I will pass. This might be a blessing. There are several things that I would like to change in the fish house and it would be a lot easier if the place was empty.

John, I haven't read the entire thread and someone may have already asked but you sell the offspring don't you? Can they really do that if it's revenue generating without some type of compensation? That would be like telling a nursery that couldn't water plants.

You are a stronger man than I am John Nichloson. If I had a top quality pair I would do what ever I could to keep posession of them. If you change your mind we could meet on the road somewhere 1/2 way.

Order 15,000 neon tetras from Hans in really big boxes?

If it works, let me know, we got .02" the other morning and all
it did was raise the heat index from a balmy 107 to 112.
You probably don't watch Futurama, but the idea for a
reverse scuba suit for fish is one of the things that just
might come in handy!

Just a thought but if your fish house is on your property I am sure it is all zoned residental. Using that much water I wonder if you could have the property re-zoned to something like agriculture or maybe commercial. I wonder if that will allow you to be able to use more water and they won't question it as much.

Funny.

I have my fingers crossed for you. I also spend about 150 month on water and change approx. 350 gals /day in my fishroom. I'm worried about rising costs of water use. I have read that costs may go up here as well due to increase demand and rain shortages for last several years.

Thanks for all of the well wishes. I live out in the country and have no zoning at all. While I do sale the fish I really think their view will be that people having drinking water trumps me wanting to play with fish...LOL.
