Hi discus fish keepers. I have been looking for the best soild orange discus fish for my discus tank. I am looking for one this color because my tank is missing that kind of color. So what i wanted to know is what is the best soild orange discus fish? Fire red, marlboro red, pigeon blood, tangerine, or a scarlet? Or if there is another type of discus thats soild orange that i did not list please tell me about it. So if you guys could tell me what kind of discus as the most orange that would be great. Thanks :)

P.S. If you want to list a picture or list where i can get the orange discus that would be great as well. Thanks :)

Just get yourself some PB millenium gold and feed it with red color enhancer (tetra bits will do). You will end up with an orange discus.

Here is a 3R I got from Kenny (same fish, different lighting):

Have a look at Flamingos, or variants of Flamingos which some sellers call Super Flamingos.
My avatar is a Flamingo, but that pic was taken a few months ago - it has gotten deeper orange since then.

The 3R's are very nice fish, but the face tends to darken quite greyish when kept under fairly bright lighting - looks like blurred peppering. Breeder/exporter Forrest in Malaysia advises keeping this strain in low light to dissipate the grey, and give them yellower faces.

P.S.
FYI - there is a Super Flamingo displayed for rating by Inland Empire Discus in the section Discus University.
That fish has much darker finnage than my Flamingos do., but you might want to have a look.
Regarding my comment above about the grey faces on 3R's. I know from experience - I had some & took them back in to exchange for the Flamingos - their faces had gotten so dirty-looking, they appeared to have been rolling around in a coal bin. LOL

I did not experience that with my 3R's and I kept them under 54 watts of T5HO lighting. Not the strongest lighting in the world, but not your avg. T8 bulb either.

Hey, ExReefer, I certainly didn't intend to downplay 3Rs and I hope you didn't take any offense. It was simply a matter of personal preference with me as to coloration at the time.

I was simply passing on my experience & what the breeder had stated to the importer. The shop I got mine from had them in a bottom tier tank with shaded light, their faces very perfectly yellow when I got them, and in fact I really liked them at the time (as I said above, they're very nice fish).

It was only a few days after I got them in my tank, that they began to discolor and got darker by the day. When I mentioned this to the shopkeeper, it was then that I was told what the breeder had said about them -and the shop voluntarily offered to exchange them.
And wouldn't you know it, when the fish were placed back in the same shady tank, their original coloration returned within a day or two. It was a bit of a strange experience, but my similarly colored Flamingos have not displayed any color change, apart from getting deeper orange as they matured.

Just my opinion.....red discus seldom turns orange since most flakes/pellets has red enhancer in it and will make the red discus more red....,..a yellow discus fed with red enhancer may turn it to orange perhaps I may be wrong.

Sorry for all the questions but if you can answer them for me that would help me out allot. Thanks for posting the pic before :)

You got the Hikari Bio Gold and the Xtreme Community Flakes....those foods are suited for red fish and don't waste money now for other foods......I just use a single strip 24 watt T5.

Hi. I know its been a while sence i posted anything on this thread but i have a question. So what i want to know is what kinds of food does not have red in that i can feed to the fish? I found a discus food that doest not have red in it i think but i need another food that does not have red in it that i can feed also for the other fish in the tank and i need one with no red because the discus will some times eat the other food.
