Finally...almost five months after rescuing Dexter, he looks healthy (and has for about ten days now)!! Now, to let him get even healthier before installing him in his new home with all the others-- anyone have any thoughts on the process I should follow?

Very Happy for you and Dex! I would leave him were he is for another 2 months. spoil him!

I agree with Jim - take it slowly.

I would keep him "in-routine" for another month, causing as little stress as possible. After that month, you may try transfering a little bit of water from the DT to Dex's tank to get him (and his system) used to omnipresent critters over the next month.

How much has that "free" fish cost?

Wow, Dexter looks amazing. Great job! I'm glad he made it! Can we get a side-by-side comparison?

Below is Dex now, versus Dex the day I got him....
how much has he cost? welllllllllllll........ more than I would have paid for a healthy fish, but what I learned about discus care, even after keeping them for many many years, has been priceless. I have never had fish get sick on me beyond a tapeworm or two over the years, so this was a great learning experience.
Looks like he will be reigning in majestic sole glory on the HT for awhile yet... as I will definitely follow the advice here!! Thank you all so much for your help over the last five (geez, that long??) months!!

Dexter is a testament to your care Judy and what a difference between the then and now. My experience was also 5 months. Sure is nice to have a healthy house. :)
