How does everyone go about changing from a lower tds for breeding to straight tap water after the fry are attached?

My tank TDS is 70 and my tap is 260

Should this be gradual or just go for it.

Thanks

I use ec I raise it .20 each day. example ec is 150 after wc i raise to 170 and so on. I wouldn't do it all at once a certain amount of water is going through their system (organs) then all of a sudden it slows may not be good.

I agree with Jim whole heartedly, change it over slow. It doesn't take a whole lot to derail the health and progress of young fry, so what Jim has already stated if pretty much exactly what I do as well.

Sean,
I start as soon as they hatch and are still wriggling. water change first with half tap and half condition water then on the following day I use the full tap and I bring the tds up from 65ppm to 350ppm in two days

LOL
No problem, the fish are dark expectedly. Thanks for all the replies.

I started feeding BBS yesterday and they are eating it.
The last two days since starting the BBS it seems the fry aren't on the parents so much, they usually congregate on that cone.

I'm hoping they are just full and not stressed. The parents do stick right with them and the fry do graze still, but not constantly.
In the past I never fed BBS on day 4 but have seen plenty of you guys do it, so instead of waiting a week I started early.

Great looking shots, always nice to see fry. Just curious, why is the cone still in the tank?

Thanks alot, good ole iPhone with hd, those fish don't like me near the tank, so it's a drive by shot with the camera.
As far as the cone goes,
Well mostly because I'm a coward and don't want to upset the parents.:)

Tomorrow I plan on moving the heater to the floor of the tank as suggested, so the adults don't get an idea to spawn on it damaging their units, LOL .

I'll remove it then I suppose. I haven't seen any spawning activity out of these two yet, they actually look pretty worn out. they haven't been in the dark and slept for quite awhile.

They get pretty goofy when they are wanting to spawn, shakin and swimming sideways, no signs at all of that.
I'll get it out soon.

Between this and messin around with my others, training the handfeeding for brews contest, I'm pretty worn out.
Plus waterchanges, oh and that place I go to every day, work :)

LOL...about that place you go to every day. I wasn't so much asking about the cone because I was thinking they were going to spawn again, just seemed like a waste the fry hanging out on it at this point. Be interesting to see what others have to say.

Yea, I have all my heaters on the bottoms of the tanks ever since I saw a pair cleaning an upright heater one day. I mentioned it to my wife while I was doing something and she quickly looked it up, on her own without prompting, and told me of the danger of the female getting burnt and not being able to lay again or worse. I think the technical name is whoha though, not unit. :D

Good luck with them and keep the pictures coming.

Very Nice Sean!! good luck with them. i raise the temp up a few degs. it seems to discourage some pairs from spawning again

Heres a new video, not very long. The female really hates it when anyone is near the tank, unless you have food :) male is more easy going.

The fry were born on the 11, so today is day 5. I jumped the gun and started feeding BBS on day 3 LOL, but some did eat it.

They are hoggin the BBS down now, their bellies are nice and orange.

They have really grown alot.

sorry for the tv noise in the background.

And sorry for plastering these vids all over this website, I have one goin in hans"s forum too.
