My discus came from water that is 6.8-7.0 and my tank is 7.8-8.0 . How long/slowly should I drip acclimate my discus?
I've done this before in about an hour, but that was for a .4 difference. I'm a little concerned about the big Ph swing...

At least it's up, not down..are they going into a QT tank?..if so, just lower the tank a bit..
I've done both, drop them directly in as long as temp is withing a couple deg. and ph is higher or 1 cup tank water every 10 mins for an hour. I have gotten fin burn with the second way, never had a problem with drop and plop
ph up.. is ok..
ph down.. bad

didn't realize up was easier...good to know. So I guess I can just plop at this point. Its been nearly an hour already and I've doubled the original amount of water.
They're going into QT tank.
So why is lowering the ph more difficult/stressful?

Acidic water is harder on gills and soft tissues....screw with the gills, and you have trouble
