68473[]here is my attempt at a discus planted tank.:) struggling a bit with algae but i think the composition looks pretty cool so far. i have 6 youngsters in there. 3 browns and 2 turquoise snakeskin pattern and 1 larger patterned one. in the picture you can see the larger pattern and a tiger stripe brown. odd only his right side has the stripes broken like that. his left is standard stripes. i guess hes a blemish but i love him.:) neven seen one like him so i grabbed him. 260 watts of compact flourescent, eheim 2217, 86-temp, 25 cardinals, 3 bristle nose, 6 lemon tetras and a otto cat. thinking of zip tieing a cool piece of wood coming in from the top, onto the glass partition that these oceanic tanks have. just worried it might eat up too much realestate for my 6 growing children. thanks for looking. walt. comments welcome.:) p.s. sorry for the fuzzy pic.:)

Good luck with it, but small discus in plant tanks make me cringe! :)

they seem to be growing well and eat constantly. i am doing 1/4 plus water changes daily and all seems well. why would you cringe? :(. walt.

Just reminds me of bad things that sometimes happen to young discus in some people's planted tanks. Disease, stunting, etc.etc.

im staying optomistic with these guys.:) my focus is one there well being and not that of the plants so we shall see. they have allready grown quite a bit from the purchase date not too long ago so i feel pretty good. i test the water often and the readings never change. all zero to barely there. cant imagine too much going south with daily water changes... walt.

ive dropped the light down to 130 watts to avoid algae as i dont have any co2 at the moment. looks a bit more "amazon" now. :) more mellow and dim. added a new piece of wood so its changeda bit. ill try to get fresh pics. thanks. walt.
