Thanks Francis, no yet. I was only thinking of trying to confirm the pair but at the 36 hour mark this morning and looks promising. 20 or so white eggs out of 100 or so. Mom is the larger Curipera X from Kenny and male is a wild Alenquer so 3/4 wild. They laid Sunday afternoon and I filled a memory card on the camera with video clips.

Thanks Gary, this sort of fell out of the cards and not really expecting to be successful here...but so far...

Hope that this works out for you. Wow the ups and downs. Nice fish. Those curipura from Kenny seem to be breeding machines.

Thanks Bill, wanting to try my hand at this so if I ever end up with a wild/wild pairing I'm not a total rookie. Also have been setting up a 230 for the tefes.

Thanks Zach but thought you are doing angels?

I plan on doing it but am a wee bit worried. I know that wilds will do good in my setup but I've never had altums. I don't really know how they would react to tap water.
Also I am not going to out up any pics at the moment but I'm getting my 75 drilled and will use the 29 as a sump. Then I'm going to aquascape it to look like amanos personal tank, but only 725 gallons smaller lol....

Hmm we will see :) I have plenty of sand but need like 6 bags Eco complete, driftwood, all my plants and more light lol. Also plumb the sump, hook everything up..... The list goes on

Well, came home to a cone with one little egg left. Walked out and came back in and it was gone too. Male is doing the shimmy/shake and both are cleaning the cone. Hopefully this will strengthen the pair bond and I look forward to a new clutch this coming weekend. Silly fish.

Welcome to the world of spawning discus. Calling them silly is being very kind. Hopefully they'll figure it out quickly, and of course confirm they are a pair. Of course "his" parts sure looked male this time.

Sounds like you need to run to the hardware store for some gutter guard pat. It's easy to make a screen for the eggs.

Good idea Jarret to at least confirm the pair. In the long run would like them to figure it out.

I went to check on this pair on the way to bed and was sitting there watching them. Looked to the other side of the room which has the smaller Curipera X housed with a small Uatama blue and a small Alenquer. The smaller Curipera X is doing the shimmy/shake with the Uatama blue and its all puffed out and interested. I watch them do several bows with each other and then the small Alenquer darts over and it is doing the shimmy/shake too. Orgy in the fishroom last night. See what happens when you bring in a couple of randy, half wild females from Kenny. They want to rock the house.

I had a group from Kenny once. Two of them paired off and started spawning at a little over 4"! I didn't even think they were old enough. LOL!

Off to the races again...have a new batch on the cone. Time to make a cage.

Am I the only one who ever wonders if it takes our pairs gawd knows how many tries to get it all right, how on EARTH has this species managed to survive? Presumably, wilds don't roll the dice nearly as steadily in their first dozen or so attempts. Every single one of the females in my four pairs has to be removed from her wee ones or she eats them. Which drives the dads absolutely apopleptic.

Second Hand Pat

Judy, here is my take for the whole thing. All young things have to practice in order to get it right. Birds, mammals whatever. Only humans have to get it right the first time.

Darrell Ward

All creatures sometimes destroy or abandon their young if something isn't quite right. Only difference is humans will punish their fellow humans by putting the offending parent in prison. Probably no surprise that the human gene pool is so messed up with strange genetic diseases.

Any news on the latest batch of eggs?

Second Hand Pat
09-17-2011, 12:59 AM
Hey Darrell, they started to eat the eggs today. When I arrived home this evening had about 20 good eggs and a dozen whitest ones. I rolled some window screen and clamped with a plastic clamp and we shall see what morning brings. Only reason for the egg guard is to confirm the pair. Once this is done I shall allow them the time to figure it out.

In the meantime the smaller female is woeing my young Uatama blue.

Came home to the third clutch on the cone. They were suppose to lay tomorrow. Need an egg guard.

Pat do you have them in RO water? May help with hatch rate with softer water.

Second Hand Pat
09-20-2011, 09:19 PM
Mark, have not made that transition yet. I am including a higher percentage of RO in the WC water. They have been eating their eggs so not quite to the hatching part. For this clutch I am also leaving the tank light off leaving the tank somewhat dim with only the overhead lights on.

Ok, so third clutch is foobar but have another pair forming. The smaller Curipera X female is woeing a Uatama blue and it is answering back.
