Why would you? Sounds like a good way to get algae.

Turn it off at night. It allows the fish some rest time.

I don't leave any lights on in a room with my aquariums unless I have some fry. Then I have a lamp in the room I leave on. Gives them a little light. I don't like leaving tank lights on all the time because it does promote algee growth.

i only have the lights on in my tanks when i am home.. if i can't enjoy them.. no need for lights :)
i also want to keep down the algae..
my tanks are also BB..
except my shrimp tank.. i left that one all for most of day.. cuz i want algae for my ottos and shrimp to eat :)

I turn off the lights on my tanks, i wouldn't want to sleep in a bright room! But if I have eggs or fry I leave a small night light on for the pair's comfort that they can see out around them to protect their young.

why not just use a timer? one less thing to worry about i say. find out what works best for your plants if you have them and set and forget. i have mine come on at noon and off at 11 p.m. that way i get to enjoy the tank in the evening after work. walt.
