Hi I am thinking about purchasing wild discus for my 125 gallon. Right now I have three 4 inch pidgeon bloods eating my homemade food. Any way my question is what do wild discus usually eat in an aquarium? I feed mine live blackworms as well.

Other than a normal aquarium diet.... Here's what is said to be a wild diet.

Here's an interesting read..... (http://www.scielo.br/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&pid=S1679-62252008000400008)

During the high-water period he reports average stomach contents of: 12% algae and microalgae, 44% plant matter (flowers, fruits, seeds, leaves), 6% detritus, 16% aquatic invertebrates, and 22% terrestrial and arboreal arthropods. During the low water period he reports 25% algae and microalgae, 39% detritus, 9% plant matter, 22% aquatic invertebrates, and 5% terrestrial and arboreal arthropods.

I'm assuming you're not trying to replicate what wilds would eat in nature. As for home care, the best advice is to give them a variety. If you get them from a reputable dealer most of the time thru the quarantine process they will have adapted to frozen food, live foods, flakes/Pellets, etc. So you just have to keep that up and they will be just fine.

Thanks guys! I have gotten them to eat my homemade food which consists of tilapia, tropical granules, tropical flakes, and green peas! They have also eaten Frozen Brine and live Blackworms! Thanks for the help!
