I've got a 2217 on my 75g and the flow is ridiculous. It will have a lot of large plants and driftwood once done so flow blockage will exist but will it be too much for altums? I know it would for discus for sure. I've got a spray bar on it already and all the plants from one side to another are always moving in current.

A ball valve on the outflow will allow you to adjust it.

Or, you can fashion a spray bar with larger diameter holes,(drill) which will still keep the output, but lessen the current pressure.

drill out the holes bigger as was said. i have a 2217 on my 75 gallon and it is not an issue at all. here it is.69067

i actually have a ac70 turned down to the slowest setting and a power head pushing currevt across the tank back aswell. maybe my setup with my wood slows down the flow as to create a more mellow current. i have all the above mentioned running and my tank still seems very calm and amazon like. lol. that was my goal from the start.

I used 2x 2217 and 1x 2028 filled with media using Eheim Installation Kits (the spray bars have larger diameter and holes than the green Eheim spray bars) on my 120 gallon with no issues for altums or heckels. I had the spray bars all across the back wall of the tank near the surface (to create surface agitation).

The Eheim spray bar holes are simple to enlarge.

Just use a quality bit, do not jump up sizes too quickly, and watch the pace and pressure of your drill. A bristled tubing brush works great to "de-burr" afterwards.

i actually cleaned my 2217 head assem. yesterday hoping to get more pressure. at least its clean.:) i think its the same. it still works great though.
