Sponge filter and BB tank Q's

I set up a Q tank for this last batch of Discus I got, and started with a sand bottom, but I have slowly pulled the sand out. Now its BB and they are staring down through the glass, I'm guessing I should paint the bottom. What color is best?

Sponge filter: I made myself a sponge filter since i had everything to make one, and hooked up the air pump and it doesnt seem like its really sucking anything into it. Should i put the bigger air pump i have on it?

I would paint the bottom white but it's not really needed, they get over it being bb.

Post a pic of your filter and the holes in the uplift tube.
You need alot of holes in the tube not really a bunch of air.

or you could just set the tank on white styrofoam...

If it would be easy to lift the tank I might do that, but i'll just paint it.

My uplift tube has roughly 20 1/4" holes drilled in it. I'll have to get pics tomorrow.
i did go ahead and hook up the bigger pump seems to be working better.

How long do most of you QT new fish?
