Hi,

I just got these 2 PE's a few weeks ago from Kenny but due to a change at home I need to sell them. The male is on the right, the female is on the left. They are inseparable in the tank and are already showing interest in the cone (light pecking together). I'm selling them for what I paid for them $300.

Unfortunately I can't ship so its local pickup only (19529 zip code).

I am Torn,
I have to leave for Vegas this sunday so I can't make the trip this weekend. I get back from Vegas next Saturday so I can't make the trip next weekend. If you still have them the following weekend I will be amazed. If you still have them 3 weekends from now I'll make the trip.

This is what I requested as well. The fish are big and strong. I am giving them 40-60% daily water changes and have them in a 20 with sponge filtration. The male so far will eat anything (except flake). The female doesn't like the tetracolor bits yet but the male wolfs them down. I feed them mostly beefheart but also some hikari frozen bloodworms and hikari mysis shrimp. Also frozen brine shrimp. For live food I've given them adult daphnia magna and whiteworms that I culture - but again its mostly beefheart.

IMO fscii if you feel possibly that you do have M/F and their compatible a 20 is all right. With the w/c and getting your discus the right water conditions for breeding your on the right road. I've found in my discus I was only able to feed flake while they were very young. Two adult discus in a 20 with a sponge filter and a cone for breeding I think it could get kind of crowded in there, I don't feed my breeder's beefheart in a breeder's tank to messy. While in a breeder tank feed live food and bloodworms if you can't get california blackworms live or frozen. Other's might be able to give you information but this works for me. Jim in Ohio

This pair is now proven and up for sale. Asking $500 for them. They spawn every couple of weeks but due to a job change and 12 hour shifts I am unable to devote the time to raise their fry. I prefer to sell to someone local but would ship if necessary.

so you got wigglers?

Good question. even if they have wigglers it doesn't mean they are proven. they could be terrible parents not able to raise fry themselves.

BTW, $500 is too damn expensive.

Yarg, this debate again.
I disagree. I tend to believe 'proven' means they're viable parents.
Your water conditions, your feeding schedule, your 1000 other variables may make them terrible parents
Hell, a day of shipping might change them and make them bad parents. And how 'bad' need they be to not be proven? Raise 10 fry, 100? Raise them until 1" ? Too many variables to define 'proven' otherwise
Hans agrees with this definition, along with more than 50% of the population (I believe)

If you want further clarification, ask the seller if they're "proven and raise the fry on their backs"
That is a different matter....and maybe be valuable
But, not what 'proven' means in the eyes of most people

Nice pair. Worth the money, in my opinion
(not that we should be chitting in this man's thread with our opinions....)

my question was really about if eggs hatched or not...

Yes they have hatched and had wigglers but unfortunately with an ex-moving out, a 12 hour job shift - I have been unable to follow through with them.

First time they had wigglers lol hate to admit this but asking the ex to do a water change w/direct instructions I came home to her swearing she didn't siphon them up but... Next few times, I had upgraded from sponge filter to hob filter and the female spawned on the hob filter pipe and I kept finding the babies on the filter pad (getting sucked up the siphon as they became free swimming). I added that filter to lighten my water changing load hoping I could keep the pair (my last ditch effort to help with water changes) but alas I can't.

So honestly once I saw that happen the 2nd time I decided I will sell the pair as I no longer can give them the time and attention they truly deserve but I thank Kenny for the opportunity to have such beautiful fish.

Its an asking price. Best reasonable offer type of situation. That doesn't mean I'll sell them for $250 lol but if someone came to me with $450 etc I'd consider all offers. I can keep them as pets but what is the point of a proven pair being pets and all of their babies getting sucked up filters and stuff? I'm not sure if they'd carry fry for 2 weeks, they never make it past the hob filter :(

A beautiful pair of one of the nicest looking discus next to wilds (only my opinion). I wish you luck in selling this pair. If I had the tank space I would consider them (also if shipped of course).

I can ship. I prefer not to, shipping discus worries me - but I do have oxygen tank and heat packs and the cooler kenny sent them to me in but I definitely prefer local pickup if possible.

Now why do you say that? Hans sells pairs that get wrigglers for more than that and so have others. Why would a nice pair that has done the same be criticized as being too expensive?

Don't ask me, ask Hans. for me its a little bit too much and I'm pretty sure some people have the same opinion. But hey here's the good news for me since I have so many Penang Eruption that I know for sure are pair with wigglers but unable to care for the fry.
I would sell them here for $500 and they are top quality from Kenny of course. Will post pictues if requested.

Apparently not.

Warblad maybe start a new thread about how unhappy you are about breeders/importers pricing on pairs?

Also I have (admittedly terrible lol) pics of wigglers on the cone [from the time my ex claims she didn't siphon them out during a water change]. That was their 2nd spawn - I also have pics of the subsequent spawns on the filter pipe which ended in wigglers in the hob filter - to anyone interested and wants proof of eggs and wigglers.

PM w/offers (seems to be what everyone is doing anyway lol).

Ha.

Anyway. I'd love them. It's a shame you're far from me
A pair of my Alex Piwow red turks beside those spotted fish would be the best of both worlds

I forgot to mention what they eat. I feed them the standard beefheart mix but they also gobble up the tetra color bits and frozen hikari bloodworms. I had fed them live daphnia magna numerous times but I stopped because I didn't want them to learn to eat things that wiggle in the tank!

warblad79
02-21-2012, 08:49 PM
its the opposite I'm very happy about the pricing here because I could sell my proven pair for at least $500.
