First Post: 75g planted tank + Discus from Kenny

Hey everyone,

This is the first post I've done of my tank. I just got the discus, they arrived under a week ago and are doing great. I have 8 of them, my current stock list looks like:
2x Leopard
2x Alenquer cross
2x Forrest Giant Blue
2x Carnation Pigeon
Many Cardinals
1x Male Electric Blue Ram
2x Female GBR
5x Sterbai Corys

The tank is a standard 75g planted tank with a small Co2 injector (basically a small DIY setup) and has 2 T5HO 54 watt bulbs for lighting. The discus range from a little over 3" to a little over 4", the FGB are the smallest ones (they're also the biggest bullies when it comes to feeding!). These fish are simply amazing, under a week and almost all of them have no fear taking food right out of my hands. My only concern right now is with one of my Leopards, he seems to get bullied heavily by the other one and doesn't eat quite as much. I'm keeping a close eye on him, he's still eating and plenty fat so I'm not too worried about it.

Current diet for the fish:
NLS Discus pellets
Frozen Beefheart and Blood Worms
Omega One color flakes (mostly for the tetra)
Spirulina Brine Shrimp
They'll be getting Freeze-dried California Blackworms soon too! I just ordered them and I'm waiting for them to come in.

All the boring stuff aside, here are the pictures! Also - I need to work on my photography... I'm not used to shooting fish :confused:

nice fish. is that Aqua Soil Amazonia as your substrate?

Thank you everyone! I'll update this thread as time goes on, I'm going to be doing a trimming this weekend at some point. It is not Aqua Soil Amazonia, it's Fluval Stratum. I really like it; it's a very soft substrate with great aeration that buffers the water perfectly. It's expensive but worth it.

I see no peppering on those Carnation Pigeons even with that substrate. U lucky duck! :D

There is a tiny bit of peppering on the Carnations but I actually like it. They don't really have any peppering on their bodies, what seems to have happened is the veins in their tail have gotten dark. I'll see if I can get some pictures tonight but it looks really nice against their body color. These fish have grown a ton! It's only been a few weeks but each one is getting fatter, larger, and more colorful by the day! :)

Quick edit: My rams are currently breeding, if anyone has any tips to keep them (or my corys) from eating the eggs please let me know! Can I "pull" the eggs or something somehow?

There is a 99% chance that either the eggs or fry will get eaten in your community tank. You do have options. Here is what I used to do when I was breeding GBR.

Thanks for the link Bugman. I think I'll try that, if nothing else a small clay flower pot might look cool in my tank. The discus might fight the rams for it though... lol
