Not sure if this is the place to put this. I am interested in the Snow leopard variety: how it came about, what cross produces it, and if anyone still breeds this type.

If you know a credible source where to get these that would be cool to know, but I am more interested in it's origins, etc.

The SD sponsors are full of top, quality discus, but I have yet to see this guy come around for sale recently. I don't know why I am always looking for stuff that's hard to find!

Well, your alittle too late..i have had the issues in finding this strain ,but my search was over when kraig form Kindom come discus imported some..I bought the majority of the shipment of snow leopards...As of about 5 monthes ago I sold them to a very close friend which still has them..I had 2 proven pair that repeatedly spawned with great amount of fry and nice vigorious fry too..Snow leopards do not bred true for starters..you will get 25% or less out of a batch of fry being snow leopards,,the others will be red/white ,snow whites, and a lot of variable looking red// white fish..You can look in kindom come discus sponsor section of past shipments...Keep your eyes open and if find any quality stock do not hesistae to buy them if they are quality and healthy stock...The ideal cross I have spoke to many people about mainly resulted to try to produce snow leopards are to have a very clean white based red/white discus strain with blue efflorensence in the head and dorsal fin area with a spotted discus like a penang eruption/super eruption..crosses may take several generations to acheive what you are exactly looking for..Physical discus genetics are just a rule of thumb,,no gaurenttees on exactly the genetics of any given discus are really going to produce until you do the cross.. Will keep you in mnd if my friend has some for sale..no gaurentees though..

Wow. Thanx 4 the info! And definitely keep me in mind as a customer 4 those fry. The pics are so cool, and exactly what I am interested in.

I had read in other threads on Discus genetics/color inheritance that the Snow/White leopard was a cross between a Snow white X Spotted Leopard.

But in my mind, I was thinking could a really nice Red-White X Spotted leopard produce a similar result. It would be even better if it was a Red-White X Super Eruption/Penang Eruption, which is in fact the exact fish you had!

Thanx for sharing.

I only think if you are going to do the cross..you would cross a very clean white based red/white with a spotted leopard and which the leopard being only a 9 bar discus,,why wouldn't you just do a cross with a penang eruption of super eruption and put the 14 bar snakskin in the equasion..with crossing a penang/super erupt.. you would problably get 14 bar variations and plus finer spotting too..that would be the cross i would go for the finer spotting...as always with discus genetics,,you would have to actually do the cross to see what you will get,,plus plan on several generations of crosses within the siblings and an outcross too to hopefully get what you are looking for..HTH
