hiya - firstoff I just wanted to say what a FANTASTIC forum this is for anything/everything Discus-related info. 'wish I'd found it a bit sooner , but I'm *perfecting* my Discus husbandry skills, thanks to this site :D.
I own two PB Discus, not perfect specimens but I absolutely ADORE them (they're a bit runtish, and have a bit of black speckling). they are still young, 4", and purchased from a LFS. yes yes I know, not the best thing to do LOL. and I know that I really should have more than just a pair, but 40g kind of limits my options. but they seem very happy together, and also live with a couple of Angels, 4 spastic guppies, cory cats and a pleco. all seems well with their world, against all odds. I have to laugh, because my well water pH hovers above 8, I'm keeping them in a community tank that should probably be a bit bigger.....
I don't want to be *bashed* because my setup isn't ideal :(, I really truly am trying to do the best possible for these fish - 25-50% WCs every other day, water testing obsessively, gravel vacs every WC (I wish it was bare bottom!!!), endless research on feeding (altho they only like flake food!), and so far touch wood they are healthy and happy.
they have the COOLEST personalities! really really fascinating fish.
I will probably never be an expert like so many of the members here (I'm actually in awe of most that I read!), but I hope to be welcomed nonetheless. who knows...........perhaps one day I'll get my dream 100g tank! ha ha ha ha ha
(oops, just realized I have to post 10 times before I can insert a photo - waaaah!)
sorry folks, I'm gonna do it here LOLOLOL

Hey Trish, love your passion and despite having only a 40 gallon and two discus you seem to be pretty successful. Welcome to simply and I'm enjoying your enthusiasm. ;)

thanks for the welcomes! if I didn't already have a time-consuming & wallet-draining passion for my horses (!), I think I would end up with ROOMS full of aquariums :D

How many horses and what type? I have two arabs, father and son, both geldings ;)
shoveltrash

2 Andalusians (PRE) - both geldings, and 2 miniature horses (mother/daughter). I raised & trained my older horse (6 y/o) from the age of 6 months, and my 2nd PRE is just a yearling :D. lots of people around here have Arabs for endurance - very cool breed! small world eh?
now if I could just win the lottery! I wouldn't have to WORK so much, and would have time for all the animals........

Andalusians are beautiful. What do you do with them? I raised my younger gelding and have known him since he was two days old. I taught all the ground work but had someone start him under saddle.

Gorgeous and appears to step under himself nice. Love the dapples. Both of mine are flea bitten grays too.

actually he's gotten whiter since this was taken.......no "flea bites" (altho I LOVE flea bitten greys!).
update: Discus are still happy/healthy, but still prefer flake food to anything frozen :(. 'waiting on my ON Prime Reef flakes to arrive, and ordering some bloodworms too to try. just worried about nutrition!

Not sure if he does, I'll ask him. I spoke with him yesterday and he said they are still at it.
