40 gallon or more?

i want to buy 6 discus in the size of 2.5 in, i have 40 gallon tank to grow them out in it, and i'd like to know when should i transfer them to a bigger tank?
and i'm not sure what to get blue diamond or red turquoise, which is easier for growing and breeding?
also can i use a power head with low water flow along with a sponge filter?

I would use an air stone myself or a bio wheel filter without the filters just for added oxygen and extra bio.

I don't like filters that trap waste it kinda defeats water changes if you ask me.

I think a 40 gal would be ok to grow out 6 Juvies in as long as you keep really good water in it, so you would need to do big water changes every day, no problem.

As far as which type fish is easier ? I think they would both be easy.

I'll take a red turquoise almost every time over any fish, they are my favorite.
Biggest discus I ever seen was a blue diamond, it was as big as a frisbee.
