Has anyone seen a discus with a black tail before? I have 9 discus in a 140gal high tech planted tank. One of them developed a black tail about a month ago...when I purchased him at the LFS his tail was clear. It is just the one out of 9 that has the black tail. All of the discus are eating well and don't appear to have any signs of illness. I just found this unusual.

I bought a group of juvie Checkerboard Pigeons from Sunrise Tropicals. 1 out of the 4 ended up with dark black fins, 1 with semi dark fins, and 2 had clear fins. Might have to do with peppering. The 2 with the dark fins had a touch of peppering, while the 2 with the clear fins had no peppering at all.

As stated above, its the peppering. Pigeon bloods have wide ranges of peppering, from none (super clean) to being almost totally black. As the fish grows, it can get more prominent.

I have MG that doesn't pepper but has black color on the outer edge of it's fin/tail.

Nice Tires, 285/35 R20s sounds like they could go on a fast car!

Yep. It's only one of millions of discus swimming around with the mutated pigeon blood gene. The black peppering color can show up anywhere on the fish.
