I just jerked about 90 lbs. of driftwood out of the F1 wild tank in prep for moving soon...Pardon the mess, wood debris, and waterspots, but these guys hardly ever get in good photo range.
Who's who in the zoo...

Pretty neat looking wilds. How old are your fish?

TURQ64

The Tefe' F1's were about nickel to quarter size last New Year's...The Cuipeau F1's are from a batch of Marks, so he'd have to date them...The wild Tefe's are the last spawn of last season; this year's medium's...

These F1 Tefe have grown a lot this year. Love your nicest F1. It will be a pretty spectacular fish as an adult.

Feed 'em good, and keep the heat up..Plenty of potential winner's in that pair of Jim's adults....
Thanks Pat..Yep, a nice fish..bummer that the little notch in the anal fin never smoothed out, but it's a Tefe' F1, not a turq or somesuch...
Those are six inch Oxygen Plus Bio filter's they are swimming under for a size comparison..Each variety has a few lunkers, and a few pipsqueaks...

Gary, do you have your heaters in homemade sleeves?

TURQ64
11-13-2011, 07:49 PM
Just in that tank, to protect the Stingray's..I burnt the crap out of my first female in the learning curve..Heater's are normally in the sump, but the sump's down on this tank...

Thank you..I put a couple of the Heckel/PE F1's in with the rest yesterday; they fit right in, and added a deeper, red/golden base to the group..one nine bar, and one 14 bar..

Careful of the top part of your heater. I've had rays swim up and slide down in between the heater and the glass. Need to make sure the whole heater is covered or far enough away from the side of the glass they cant touch it.
If there is an exposed heater they will find it. lol

Lessee..Those pvc covers were all the way up until we pulled the driftwood..And they're jury-rigged back up now until the wood goes back in....
Damian, Yep, I vac the heck out of it, but I do leave driftwood and mangrove 'debris' areound, as the fish like foraging thru it..When it starts to become detritus, then it's vac'd out...I leave quite a lot of it in with the Heckel tank; they get p*ssed when I get it 'too sanitary' for their liking...

Here's a sloppy shot of the F1 wilds and a few friends...They're not in this tank today; I jumped them to a 60g to hold them while I strip down this tank for moving..Tefe's F1's and a wild left and center..F1 Cuipeau's above and below sponges..Two Heckel crosses in there somewhere..Runt Tefe' in front of sponge...

Very, very nice! Have you seen the wild (as in naturally ocuring) Heckel crosses yet? Unreal! Large fish like blue moons with crazy red in them! I am sure they would right up your alley!

One of these days when the dust settles Gary I'd love to see a nice shot of that big fish with the orange/red coloration on the dorsal and pectorals. Curious what the body looks like.

The tease of how the ceiling looks is nice. Makes my shoulders and neck a little sore just thinking of all the time you spent at 90 degrees hanging it though. Awesome progress on the room.

Pat, that's a small Tefe' in front of the sponge, a wild Tefe' sneaking from behind the sponge, the rest on that side are Cuipeau's..wild Tefe' juvie in center hiding my nicest F1 Tefe',Heckel Cross below them..smaller Tefe' F1's swimming away, photo right....

Gary,

The f1"s are coloring out very nicely. I am waiting to see their breeding colors to see if they look like their father. Nice mix of fish with the Cuipai, Heckel cross and Tefe.

I'll try again..
I'm overcrowding a few larger tanks to accomodate shutting down a dozen on several lines for the move to the new room soon. This 180 is a regular Cioppino (SF fisherman's stew)..This F1's in tere now, along with a half dozen of his F1 bud's..

Gary, I may be a little prejudiced but I really like the Heckel crosses. The reddish body with red highlights are realy nice. I knew I should have kept the spotted one half hidden by the Heckel. I don't have another one with that pattern. All of mine are striated.

Well, all'ya'll are probably tired of these guys, but I was passing by and shot a few photo's today for their growth records..Pardon the flying food particles, but if I don't give 'em something, they just follow the lens around waiting for food to come out of it, eliminating profile shots...
Now, the disclaimer; These are my Heckel/PE crosses, but my friend JamesP would probably love to sell you a few, so...Here's mine, his probably look even better, and Christmas is approaching!....I think these are the best Discus deal going, considering their size, growth, genetics, and just general dang personalities!..Also, more of them are spotting up...enjoy!

Yep, when I first started on the new fishroom, I had 2 pair squabbling badly..During the evening, one female harrassed the male so much the big bruiser lifted a 1/4' plate glass cover and hit the floor..It was the top teir on a 3 tier rack..long drop..The oither female literally beat her mate so bad he wedged between a heater and the tank glass..D.O.A.

As for the 'crosses, Send a ton of moola to JamesP, and he'll send you some extremely nice, somewhat uncommon fish that are turning huge...the father is a true 8 1/2 incher..big brute of a Heckel...
