It is a continuation thread for the Cuipeua's adult I received from Mark (Discus Origins).

This is one of the two royal's I received and the alpha of the group.

Thanks Jarret, it is quite the little character. It is the smallest one and is rather a bully.

What is the size difference between the two Royals, if any? The one that I have that shows the full striations is considerable larger than the 2nd royal which only faintly shows the full striations. I'm hoping that as it continues to settle in and grows the striations will become more pronounced.

Second Hand Pat
11-17-2011, 02:18 PM
Larry, the lesser striated one is slightly larger then the fuller striated one. Like you, I'm betting that these guys will show more striations as they settle. You received the largest royal if I recall correctly and it was quite a bit larger then both of mine.

Yes, it is a really stunning little fish...very determined to define it's corner of the tank.

Looking better and better, Pat. I assume they are in QT? Where will they go when they get out?

Yun, you bet ya they are in QT. Just finished the metro treatment yesterday, on to prazipro next. The adults will go into the 100 first. After the juvies are grown out I considering a larger future tank. The Cuiprea crew will be 11 strong at that point.

The Cuipeua solids are starting to really show some serious red. One of the royal's is recovering from a columnaris outbreak (suspect feeding live blackworms). He is the one in the back right corner.

I want to thank Gary (TURQ64) for guiding me through this...Thanks Gary.

Second Hand Pat
12-22-2011, 10:02 AM
Thanks Anik, I sort of do have a fish room or shall we say a small room next to the garage with three tanks and two large tanks in the living areas of the house. On the Cuipeua crew there are seven adults and six juvies. nine Tefes in the 230 and another six assorted in a 75. The latest Cuipeua in the post above your post are in a 100 gallon with a black background. That black background may not work for the Cuipeua. Make them looks dusky.

Rummy
12-22-2011, 05:15 PM
I think the wrong color background is definitely a valid excuse for a new bigger tank.

Second Hand Pat
12-22-2011, 05:32 PM

Rummy
12-22-2011, 05:48 PM
That's the logical thing to do. But, who has time to be logical these days.
The slimline it is, then. Mine would say the same. He was actually very happy to have read all of those responses I had about keeping my fish packed like sardines in the 90 gal. And he's the one responsible for getting me into keeping discus.

Second Hand Pat
01-07-2012, 11:09 PM
Jim, I have the 10% and according to the inkmaker website it's 1/4 teaspoon per 20 gallons and this is what I used. I just went to try and verify that and the website seems to be down. I also have his pdf file downloaded and it's dosage is pretty different.

I would what to verify the pdf's dosage with Charles Harrison before using it.

Effective treatment for Hydra, Intestinal parasites including Hexamita, Gill fl ukes and Callamanus
Flubendazole is a compound belonging to a group of chemical compounds which are effective in controlling
intestinal parasites like round worms, tape worms and pin worms, etc. These compounds are NOT antibiotics.
They do not control bacteria or fungal infections and in fact may escalate these problems as they kill off the
other infections. This compound is not the cure all.
Flubendazole is useful for controlling intestinal parasites. These parasites include most of the nematodes, fl ukes
and protozoa. Flubendazole is active through adsorption into the fi sh skin and gills. The drug does not have to
be eaten to be effective. This makes the drug useful for treating fi shes which have quit eating due to irritation
from infection.
Effective treatment can be achieved with a dose of 1/2 gram per 5 gallons of treated water. A much higher
economical treatment can be achieved by removing half of the water in the treated tank as long as the usual
aeration and mixing can be maintained.
First things fi rst, the tank water should be changed. It is not necessary to clean the tank, just change the water,
all of it. After treatment, change it again. The bodies of the dead animals need to be removed. Also, it is best to
have live wiggling or jumping food in front of the patients as they recover so have live baby brine shrimp or
worms ready for the treated fi shes.
Add 1/4 teaspoon of the medication for each 5 gallons of tank water. It may fl oat for a while, but it needs to be
mixed into the tank water, swirl it in to dissolve. Hydra, Ick and Velvet take three days to remove. Heximeta
may take three doses to remove completely over fi ve to seven days to complete. Three days after the fi rst
treatment change the water again. Add another dose of 1/4 teaspoon/5 gal. to the fresh water. Change the water
a second time after 5 to 7 days.
This should take care of everything. A third dose after three or four weeks will insure the treatment, but usually
isnʼt necessary unless symptoms reappear.

Thanks Pat that's what I use the 10% at 1/4 per 20 but I use it with dmso. the page you show from his site says 1/4 per 5 gal? The last flubendazole I got was almost useless. I thought maybe you tried kursuri or something. Thanks

Second Hand Pat
01-07-2012, 11:21 PM
OK, the website is up

http://www.inkmkr.com/Fish/ItemsForSale.html

and the dosage with the 10% is

Flubendazole 10 % powder
Best for eliminating Hydra. Treats protozoa wasting disease, serious treatment for Velvet, enternal and external parasites, 1/4 teaspoon of 10 % powder treats about 20 gallons of water for most parasitic Protozoa. Eliminate Carbon filtration during treatment. Change most of the water after 10 days. Will not harm plants, Prolonged use will kill many snails. ........
