quarantine tank size.

right now i have a 20gallon quarantine tank. i am wondering if this is a good size or should i have something bigger. my main tank is a 60 gallon but im movin up to a 180 gallon or bigger tank. i dont think i will be gettin more then 6 discus at a time.


any suggestions would be great.

also in this quarantine tank. how do i keep the bacteria growing and healthy ?

i been keeping the air sponge filter in my main tank when its not being used. but then i figured on putting 1 pleco and 2 cory cats in the tank. this way i dont lose expensive fish and the tank stays alive and maintained

QT Tank is what ever size you want to keep fish in for 6 weeks.. minimum..

Hospital tank.. imho should be 10g.. or 20g.. the 10 is much easier to put in meds.. and cheaper :)

Correct me if I am wrong but...I think a lot of the meds can kill your good bacteria anyhow.

steel.. the qt is mostly for OBSERVATION. but you don't know what your new fish have and what your existing fish have.. so mixing them right off the get go is not a good idea..

I agree all new fish should be in qt. Why the 6 week qt? Isn't 3 weeks sufficient enough or is there a disease that rears its head after three weeks?

I have a 10 gallon for a QT. It also is serving as a grow tank for my mini discus I bought.

do you have tank with fish already in it and you want to add some more discus?! is this correct?

if not.. just add the fish to the tank..

its the mixing of fish from 2 different sources..

remember some fish are immune to things.. and others are not.. so if you mix them it can be bad for one side and not the other.. ask the American Indians and SMALL POX.. same with your fish

i have 7 discus in my 60 gal tank and i have 1 new guy in my 20gal QT tank. the new guy has a slight blue tint to his eye now. so i am keepin him in there and gettin some moxxy for him tomorrow.
