I just picked up a 210g. Do you think 2 Hydor 300 inlines can keep temp up for discus?

Yea, I would redone the stand too, not a light wood fan.

+1 on the wilds.

It actually looks better in the pics. The true color is kind an off tan color. I went for a deep wood color for this stand since I am adding black sand.

I do have 2 250 Jagers coming in this week but I wanted to try and keep as much out of the tank as I can. The tank will be viewable from both sides. Which is why I wanted to try the Hydor inlines. Plus it will make it easier with keeping the rays off the heaters.

Actually just moving the 75. It still has rays and a couple discus. When I move them to the 210 I'm putting the group of Shooting Stars I bought from Kenny in there to growout and pair up.

I use a Hydor 300watt. I feel it is a good heater but only time will tell. I just got it recently. It will at least keep an obstetrical out of my tank for discus and prevent me from burning them up so easily with the ink coils and constant water on it even with water changes.

Just checked out this thread, envious.Just the other week my wife and I were running the tape measure upstairs to see if a bigger tank was feasible. Can do 6ft,8ft would mean moving the t.v.,and when the 150 leaked, tore the room apart, and ran the wires thru the base board for the t.v. ,so 8ft is out.6ft yes, maybe 7ft,lose an end table. But who am I kidding, can't really afford it,unless one of those those craig list dreams happens, and winter lay-off is coming,so I can jump on it.Just ramen noodles and hot-sauce for a couple weeks.

LOL a little tetra filter to pick up the small sand particles and the sand floating ontop of the water before I hook my new filter up to the tank tommorow.

So to clean the water surface. I have not seen one like that before...almost looks like little split trashcan.

TNT77
12-01-2011, 01:42 AM
It really pushes water. I use it to polish my 120g. The discus hate it cause it throws such a current but I only use it for a couple hours when needed.

TNT77

My filter arrived. :) But there is a delay hooking it up. Seems I have microbubbles in the sand causing alot to rise to the surface when disturbed. :(

Seems like you could stir the sand to release the bubbles.

I have been all day. :( Not as bad as it was earlier but still some in there. I think I made a mistake dumping the sand in right after I filled. I get tons of micro bubbles in the winter and the sand is silica sand so I think it gathered all the bubbles up as it dropped to the bottom. I dont want to ruin the new filter so I'm going to hold off for at least another day before hooking it up.

Not really to worried about the bubbles its the sand that the bubbles keep bringing to the top of the water that I'm worried about. I've already had my cheap hob clogged 3 times from it. I'm worried about doing that to the new filter.

Having issues with removing watermarks on the back. Good excuse to get a 3d background. :) Should be ordering one in a couple days. http://www.designsbynature.net/products-page/slimline-bgs/bj29wa-abyss/ is the background I'm getting. Ordering a piece of wood from PC1. And going to get a couple big river rocks once I can find where to get them. :D

Second Hand Pat

Doesn't seem to and you can keep an eye on it through the glass. After you cut the BG to the height you place the bottom edge against the bottom on the aquarium and push the top under the edge of the brace. Be very careful to not cut the height too short. Better to cut a little big and cut down if needed.

TNT77

I think thats what I'm going to do. That way if it is in dire need of a bad cleaning I can take it out. Plus I don't want to drain and dry the tank. LOL

Second Hand Pat
12-04-2011, 01:15 AM
Tara, you have need to have the tank about half empty to place the BG in the tank or remove it from the tank. It is very buoyant which works against you with the tank full.

Most likely growouts. I picked up a 38g cube that I really like the footprint on for a breeding tank. I have a 120g I'm getting come spring that I think I'm going to divide into 2 60g growouts. I've got a 75g growout but I'm moving my Spotted Snakes in there to pair out.
