hello SD, im new to the world of discus.. been reading and following the site for a few weeks now.. I think I have it set up right.. if not please chime in and give helpful pointers... http://forum.simplydiscus.com/images/smilies/smile.png

65 gallon ( with 1 large sponge filter, 18inch air stone, external water filter, 300W aqua top heater) aged water for a week @ 88 deg..
25 gallon ( W/ 1 small sponge filter, 250watt heater, and one air stone)
(2) 32 gallon rubber maid trash cans for age water with heaters...
also treated water with PRIME...

I just bought a batch of blue diamonds yesterday and put them into the tank while still in bag. 30 mins later open bag and put a cup of the water into the bag and reclosed it.. 30 mins later opened and let them free... they swam all aroung the tank.. alil shy at first until i feed them some blood worms..

Nice setup. 1 week is actually a little long to age water. Water can be aged in a matter if hours really with good water agitation. Maybe takes a day to heat the water. If you let the water sit without the chloramines in it for to long there's a chance to grow bacteria in the containers and nuke your tank (i've done it)

Welcome to SD and best of luck with your new discus !

Call on us at any time if we can be of any help.

And if you haven't done so already, you might want to have a read of my Beginner's Guide to Discus - it may help you get through some humps:

LOL! yeah, after joining here I have become an obsessive water-changer.....and from what I understand, the younger the discus the *more* you need to do WCs ;)

Indeed welcome aboard. Looks like you did jump right in, unlike many of us who did a slower transition while learning the ropes. Wish you all the best and do remember that the more consistent you are the better of you'll be. take care

I'm new as well (to the site, not Discus keeping!) I used to use the DPH Discus site but haven't been on it for 3 years, went back to it and it's deserted nowdays like the Mary Celeste so i was looking for new sites and stumbled across this!...I see most of it is in the US so most of the treatment names etc will be different but the technices for doing things should be about the same...Sorry to hijack the original post!

@Mike - I visit DPH too as I live in NL and its in English, it was very helpful when I started and had a series of disasters, as was this site. Only difficulty I had/ have is that the medicines are different. There is a British discus site which looked good but I think this and DPH do me fine.

chiligum, welcome! I'm new to the site, AND to discus (don't actually own any yet). My company has an office in Kalamazoo, so I occassionally get to call "across the pond". Nice setup.

Well if you ever get over the Big Pond mate, bring some of those Cali Worms with you, i've never tried or even seen them!
