Hello everyone,
I currently have two breeding tanks set up. The discus pairs are laying eggs but not making it any further. One pair is young, just about 7-8mths old(pair A). The other pair is a bit over 1 yr(pair B).

pair A have spawned twice in the breeding tank and have eaten their eggs. I am wondering if they are too young? Or if they are just getting the hang of things. I have a pic of their 2nd batch. Can u tell if these eggs are fertilized? At least some? why are some a different colour? Could it be that I have two females?

Pair B have spawned about 8 times. Every week, sometimes twice a week. The first 7 times they ate the eggs by day 2.The last time i blocked off the eggs, but they turned white and grew fungus. Couldn't get a pic of these. I'm not sure the eggs are being fertilized. Maybe two females?

hardness is at about 40 ppm
pH-6.5
temp-84F
Water is a mix of RO and tap.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

The eggs that are red looking look fertilized the white ones not.

What you could do is either drip meth blue over the eggs or dose the tank with quick cure to prevent fungus .

You could put a screen of gutter guard over the cone to stop them from eating the eggs or find which fish is eating them and remove it.

Or you could just wait for them to get it right.

Good luck.

+2. I would not say any look fertilized or not.

I guessing 2 females as well. There is 1 unfertilized egg in the photo. How long after spawning was the pic taken?

I would try to put some meat on these guy's before spawning them, 7 month's is still quite young.

Probably 2 females but that is just a guess..another question is why are you breeding them? They look tiny and the color...well jacked up. Might just be the picture, but they almost look like some kind of RT X ghost.

Ok thanks guys. the pic was taken no more than 8 hrs after spawning.
I'm thinking two females as well. Just getting into discus and these two spawned in my dt so I thought I would give it a try.
The colour is just messed up in the pic.

I didn't see the eggs of this pair turn white. I saw one white egg when i took the picture, then I went to work and when i came back home, they were gone.
Pair B eggs turned white after about 2 days. Pair b is a pigeon blood pair.

Can you post another picture of pair A....I don't think the fish have anything to do with the picture from the breeders sight.....I don't know who the breeder is but something does not look right to me.

Ok i will try to get a better pic. It is hard because i don't have a light on the tank and the picture is dark without flash.

I'm going to be brave and just say it, but I don't believe that the two fish in the pics above ARE the spawn of of the Discus in the pic. Does the breeder have a pic of the other parent..?

No, I don't think so, but i saw the pair in person. I saw all his pairs actually and his whole set up. He has really nice fish, there is no need for him to lie about something like that, bc all his pairs are nice anyway and he sells all the young for the same price anyway.
See the fish with the solid brown looking body in the pic, in person you can actually see orange spots becoming more and more visible. Really doesn't show up in the pics though.

Got eggs in both tanks this morning. After work pair B had eaten all of theirs and some of pair A eggs are white, about 15%.
