Hi,

I bought a juvenile blue diamond discus about a week ago, and he's doing great. Today, I got another blue diamond, same size...and the first blue diamond is severely harassing it, chasing it around the tank. The poor new guy is sitting up under the power filter, trying to hide. My question is, I've never seen Discus so aggressive? Is it because they are the same strain? Maybe they are both males?

I have 4 adults and 2 juveniles. 55 gallons. Because I don't have a QT tank. Do you have any insight to the question I posted?

Adults and juvies in the same tank is never a good idea.

Why not mix adults and juvies? The adults are leaving both of them alone. I have never read anywhere in my research not to mix adults and juvies. So what do you do if one of your adults passes or you decide to rehome or give one as a gift, and you want to replace it? Do you have to set up a new tank each time you want a juvie? I don't understand.

I think the advice would be to buy a replacement fish that's already an adult. Spend some time searching through this forum and you'll find lots of threads about mixing juvies with adults.

and the juvie will stunt into a permanent 'juvie'..It needs to out eat an adult ten times to one..But the adults ain't gonna let that happen, 'cuz they're adults!..bad practice

Ok, well I have an extra 20g tank that is not being used, I'm going to put the juvies is there for about 6 months.

Then you will have one stunted discus. It is also not a good idea to keep 2 or 3 discus together. You will alsway get a stunted discus, sickly is also a possibility.
