been set up 4 days, 75 gal...Rena xP3 filter, 2 foam filters (tossed the boxes, forgot what size), 150w heater...I thought was too small for the tank but keeping at a steady 84 degrees and it's set at 80.5 degrees so must be okay, and solarmaxHE double T5 lighting "system"...has the blue moonlights in it that are always on, glad the wife pays the power bill (and the H2O)...got the manzanita dw soaking 24hrs now, gonna wait another day to put in tank depending on how the water in the soak tank looks. Waddaya think?

Waddaya think?

it i will look better with fish!!

2 questions?

are those filter sponges rated for the 75g?
** just saw the part you tossed boxes.. ok.. imho, maybe picking up another hydro 5 pro sponge filter.. just to be safe.. you can actually DOUBLE STACK the two you already have.. so you can just keep the same hoses..

and is the bottom painted of the tank?
fish can get freaked out with the reflection at bottom..

actually 3rd thing..
has the tank be cycled?

looks great! that is a small heater for that size of a tank. be sure to have a spare just in case that one burns out....

+1 on painting the bottom

Not sure why you need double T5 lights for a BB set up, but good luck with the fish.

I had to check my order...filter sponges are Oxygen Plus Bio-Filter 7 measures 4-1/2" 7-1/4" high and is for aquariums up to 50 gallons...had seen some tanks with 2, so that size I thought would make sense in the 75

don't whack me...may put in a few potted plants, hence the light...no paint on bottom, yet (I like doin things the hard way!)...double stack? Yeah, after I got the filter...saw some inline I thought looked like a good idea, less in the tank.

Mark, enjoy that clean tank. That's what you want it too look like with the fish :) I have smaller heaters on my tanks, they do not have to work as hard here in Fla as other parts of the US but a spare is a plus.

hello Pat in orlando, when this tank's ready for fish I might have to sneak over your way with my ronco pocket fisherman and catch a few of those fish I saw in the pics of your project tank...very nice.

Thanks Mark, no hooks in my tanks ;) I did catch a fish that way once. A Sargent Major I caught in the keys with a slurp gun. He got too big for his briggins and terrorized everything in the tank (180 saltwater). Took me three days to catch him.

Since this is a thread you started ill post a question i have for you in it.

Do you really think your user name here is appropriate for a aquarium related web site?

Myself I think its rediculous and has no place here.

why dont you message Al and ask him to change it to something more appropriate.

bigjohnson

my user name is not intended to offend in any way, my name is mark johnson...I believe there's an area where you explain your user name, and I have...so sean, get over it, this is an aquarium site so if you don't like it, don't read any of my threads, cause i don't give a sh^^ what you think! If Al had a problem with it I'm sure I'd have heard about it by now...as#hol#

Mark, what strains of discus are you considering?

bigjohnson
12-18-2011, 05:21 PM
the brillian blue, or red turquois look nice...but they all do. I'm not too sure at this point...any suggestions for what I should be looking for? And thank you for getting my mind off the previous post.

Mark, if I was doing domestics I love the Piwowarski Red turks or red spotted reds. Dan here carries them but I see he is out.

I would suggest browsing Kenny's threads, Han's website and any of the other sponsors for pictures to see all the possible choices. The strains are almost endless.

As for what you should be looking for check out the sponsor's websites. This will give you a good idea of what to look for.

I suggest you read the 4th and 5th paragraph of the forum rules about user names. Note the words appropriate and vulgar .

You see if Al were to let some guy like you who wanted to be referred to as a part of the human anatomy have a username that is clearly a forum violation, he would have to let every goofball that came along do it.

Before you knew it there would be guys like yourself who because of some perverted flaw in their character wanted to be known as some other pornographic names all over this place.

This place would be full of names like that.

Here's a scenario for ya.

Some kid comes here and hasn't been exposed to the crap you think is acceptable.
You with your name which is in reference to a mans penis decide your going to give him/ her some advice, and the kid goes and gets his dad so they can get some info together. well I can tell ya right now that that dad ain't going to be real happy that some pervert that likes to be referred to by name as a mans big penis is talking to his kid.
Your name has no place here in my opinion and I have no doubt it will be changed, because the people who run this place most likely have kids too :)

Your tank looks great :)

They are very nice fish Pat, a good price too...I bought 4 Alenquers from Stendkers in Germany and they were £17 each at about 3 inch...To me they are one of the nicest looking strains about and definately can't be considered 'freaks' that some people think of some of the man made variaties...If you went with something like this Mr Johnson, you couldn't go far wrong...In mine and Pat's opinion!!!

Just checked out Kenny's thread...it's killing me that my tank's not ready, I will have to wait (i'm guessing another 4 wks) before the tanks cycled enough...i'm trying the fishless method and it's only been going a couple of weeks now, but I will keep checking the threads, thanks.
