Pulled out of my subdivision this morning heading to work and had a horrible surprise. Less than a mile from the house a 4 point buck decided to cross the street.

I was lucky it didn't come into the windshield. Initial estimate without dismanteling the car is $2773 and it will certainly go up when the get it apart.

Larry, main thing is you are OK . Heard too many stories of deer coming inside the car and kicking the person to death . Car ...easy fix !

Yeah, deer can be dangerous glad to hear its fairly minimal (compared to what could of happened). And be glad you weren't going faster.

That sux Larry, glad you are OK, cars are easy to fix. Hopefully the insurance process will go smooth.

But most importantly - now you have fresh venison in the freezer! LOL

Yeah, I was thinking you should be able to keep it, you killed it!
I agree with others, it could have been worst. Thank God you're OK.
Insurance will take care of the car, and also pay your salary for one day, if you had to miss work due to the accident.

like the others have said, it could've been worse......
I'm very *pro deer hunting* for this very reason. there are WAY too many deer in our area, it's crazy, AND dangerous.

'least you weren't hurt!!!!!!

Deer are everywhere these days. Better game management, combined with increased development, put them in contact with humans much more often. I can remember back in the 1960's, we hardly ever seen any deer. Now, it's a daily occurrence. They are becoming pests of around here to farmers.

Wow Larry, glad you are ok. Heck of a way to get some venison. John's approach works way better.

Tough luck on that nice hybrid! I wish you'd drive around my back yard for a while LOL! They are like flies here in Northern Virginia. BTW, how do you like the Camry? I've got 85g on my 07 Hybrid, no problems yet, and NO DEER either!

Deer in our neighborhood are so many and they are tame. We had our group in the front yard last week and as we drove out the driveway we had to slow down as they strolled across, 6 of them, and it was 2pm! They come up on our front porch to eat the pansies out of the pots next to the front door. Beautiful, but very bold and can be destructive! Sorry about your car Larry. At least you are OK.

Larry I almost got one about thirty minutes after I read this last night. Me and my gf just left the mall and were going out to eat. On a back road doing about 50 it was super dark out. I hit my brakes hard enough and fast enough to miss it but the guy going the other way got it dead on.

Mate, the car is just that, a car - a heap of metal and plastic, and all of it is replaceable - people aren't!. Accidents happen, and you have not been injured so that is all that really matters. Glad your ok.

I think that'll buff out...

In all seriousness, my dad hit a deer about 15 years ago in a Chevrolet Sprint, the predecessor to the Geo Metro:

The deer rolled up and over the car (because the CAR was so small). You are very fortunate, and although the car will need some work, all things considered, aside from not hitting the deer at all, this was probably the best outcome to be hoped for.

Thanks for the well wishes and responses everyone. I just needed to vent a little. Working for UPS makes this time of year very stressful. I was looking forward to yesterday because with Christmas coming to a close I saw the opportunity to go in early and get out early and catch up on some much needed down time. This really put a damper on that happening. I am indeed grateful that the situation ended as it did. It could indeed have been much worse.

Venting is good. I do that A LOT :)

So, I'll stick with what I was originally just going to put: That'll buff out.

I feel your pain; 5 cars, 7 deer in 3 years here at the lake......I drive in idle for a mile or so either way of our woods....

Gary, stick to drinking, or buy a rifle... hunting deer with the car can become a very expensive habit... :-)

Oh...oh... if they find a food source, you're in trouble. And you're right, they can be bold and destructive.

You might want to do something or get some help before it gets out of hand, trust me.

On the other hand, if you play it right, you could have free meat for a very long time.

Ain't it funny that killing a deer with a car is legal, but shooting a deer from a car is not?

I always wondered about things like that. You get a ticket if you don't buckle your seat belt inside the car, right?

Yet, here in Central Florida you see pick up trucks with the bed full of people, and they don't get stopped or get tickets. Isn't it more dangerous to ride the back of a pick up truck out in the open, nothing holding you down?
